Yes - I almost got caught once when the car in front stops sooner than you expect - luckily he moved again and I didn't have to stop. Much more conservative now. :)

No way out though - stop in the box and you're done.

  • 3 months later...

I just had a letter from TfL, cancelling a fine they had issued me for stopping in the box junction next to Peckham bus station. I had definitely stopped in the box, it goes to show it is worth putting in an appeal.

TfL?s letter says:

Due to an operator administrative error relating to the above penalty charge, the representation has been accepted and the penalty charge has been cancelled.

It also then says that on this occasion they decided to ?exercise discretion?. So it?s not necessary a black and white thing. When I filled in the ?representation? box I had simply said that if I had stopped in the box, it must have been because somebody changed lanes in front of me and blocked my exit, and anyway it was not possible to tell from the one photo whether I or not I was just moving slowly and could I please see photos from 10 secs before and after. All a bit speculative, but I don?t make a habit of deliberately clogging up box junctions so I?m glad I don?t have to pay a fine this time :)

    • My mum (91 years young!) well remembers going to Austin's as a child, which she described as an 'Aladdin's Cave'!  She absolutely loved it - and is still a shopping fiend to this day (I 'blame' Austin's 😉). Going back up Peckham Rye, passing Austin's on your right hand-side, just past Phillips Walk (so not far from Austin's at all), I believe there was a British Relay Wireless shop - this would have been in the late 1930s/early 1940s.  Does anyone know anything about this? My grandad (my mum's dad) used to manage it; it was severely damaged in The Blitz - but I am having trouble locating it.  Mum's memory is dim (she was 6 at the time); she originally thought it was in Rye Lane, but we think now it was in Peckham Rye just up from Phillips Walk (originally Phillips Road).
    • Thanks everyone, this will need to be reported again as the fox was still mobile and walking down the road when last seen... hopefully someone will spot and report.
