Is is a one off aberration? Or a signal that voters are starting to say 'a pox on all your houses' to the main political parties? Will that be good news for the Tories, as Labour is more likely to lose their core vote if that happens (UKIP excepted)? And what of the Lib Dems - they lost their deposit in the by-election. Will dumping Clegg be a way back?

I think it is very significant. It was an astonishing result, in many ways more remarkable than his result in Bethnal Green and Bow. Whatever you may think about Galloway, you can't really argue with that.

Of course there was a huge Galloway factor in play. But it goes much deeper than that. It shows that Labour cannot take its working-class voters for granted any more.

Labour has presented little if any opposition to the Con-Dem coalition. Miliband and Balls have supported the government's austerity programme. Labour supports privatisation and PFI. It never supports workers who take strike action, whether it be on pension cuts or anything else. So, what is the point of Labour.

There is a space to the left of Labour. All three main parties say pretty much the same thing. We need a real, nation debate on what sort of economy and what sort of society we want. Do we want one that is subservient to the banks, big business and company executives, or do we want one that serves the needs of ordinary people.

TUSC wants to make sure that the disillusionment with Labour and the other established parties finds an expression in a serious party that aims to build everywhere.

The small, relatively new Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition aims to raise this debate. It is standing a list of candidates in the London Assembly elections on 3 May. It stands in opposition to all cuts, privatisation, PFI and the anti-union legislation. It completely rejects the three-party consensus in favour of austerity and war.

No vote for ME! I oppose EVERYTHING!

but would struggle to run a piss up in a brewery before it had been renamed several times after African National Congress figureheads and collapsed under the weight of factional disputes

*please Dad, can I have some more pocket money?

Yup - I guess one usually rejects something in favour of something else.

However, this version prompted a show of hands, and after the Socialist Trade Unions Coalition walked out on the Trade Unions and Socialist Coalition over an unextended toilet break, the Socialist Coalition of Trade Unions (Redcar) cited rules 17.2 and 149.3 and carried the motion through a disputed golden vote.

They all decided they deserved more money, and an enquiry was called into how the bourgeoisie stole the money tree.

Everyone was in opposition.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
