sociable cycle ride Sat June 8th 10am

Recommended Posts

One of the reasons for these rides is to help those who want to cycle but who look at the roads and say "I'm not brave enough to ride a bike". You don't need courage. This one follows Quietway 1, London's best quietway, no lorries or buses (and hardly any cars either). Riders will go up to central London and out to Deptford, safe all the time. If you can get to Rye Lane on your bike you can use Quietway 1.

The ride starts at Deal Porter Square opposite Canada Water Station. The station is on the Overground and has ace lifts which take three bikes at a time. Bikes can be walked onto trains at East Dulwich station and the change to the Overground at Peckham Rye is across the platform. The ride starts at 10am and ends at 12 noon. The group will look at Quietways 1 and 14 and think about a planned extension of Quietway 14. These are useful routes to learn.

Along with the route-finding there are lots of things to see from a new angle: the Russia Dock Woodland, Deptford Historic Waterfront, the New Den (Millwall Stadium), Trinity Square (Henry Wood Hall), Guys Hospital and the Mayflower Pub. The ride is very suitable ride for beginners as it is all on quiet streets, segregated tracks or off road paths. It's a easy, flat, 10mile ride. Everyone is welcome on any type of bike. The route is here:

These Saturday morning rides are part of a series with occasional Bank Holiday extras. They are led and organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which has worked hard to get the Quietways built and give more people the confidence to cycle. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk, this event and many more are on the calendar. LCC groups all over London run rides and events and they are listed here: https://lcc.org.uk/events.
