If you must advertise your school fete/yard sale/street party etc. with laminated signs attached to lampposts and railings, please take them down afterwards. It's just being polite and not adding to unwanted street furniture. Southwark Council puts plenty up (those yellow ones) and never removes them so no need to add to the tattiness.
I like reading notices on trees and railings. It's a good way to advertise something going on in the area and also for example if you're cat has gone missing etc. It's a good old fashioned way to do it as not everybody is on social media. Lots of schools, churches, shops have also become very inclusive over the years and won't allow a sign/poster to be put on their premises for something going on in the area so it's all a bit hit and miss.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
