Months ago I threw my cleaning routine out of the window and our 2 bed flat is pretty awful at the moment. As I have not got the momentum to tackle this I am after a company which does a spring clean to start me off again.

I have not posted this in the services section because I am after a recommendation. I have already contacted a local agency which has quoted me ?250 which sounds pretty steep to me? (our flat consists of one living room, 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, one bathroom and one hallway) They did say that I would get 5 cleaners and that it would take about an hour. This works out at ?50/hour per cleaner, which makes me think that I am being taken for a bit of a ride. For this amount I could get my old cleaner back for ?25 hours (and I am not calling her back because she was pretty rubbish). Even if I paid her double ?20/hour this would still entitle me to 12 hours, so I am pretty annoyed at the ?250 for 1 hour I have been quoted (even for a team of 5 cleaners). Or am I missing something?

Thanks!

I looked into similar a few years ago, and like you was pretty shocked by the prices (?400+ was the quote I got for our 5 bed house, needless to say I didn't go ahead!).

I think the problem is that agencies charge a hefty fee, especially if you don't already use them to provide you with a weekly cleaner. Much cheaper to hire someone directly, but then you run the risk of them being rubbish!

Sorry, no solution, but I will watch with interest. We have a cleaner but I would like a "deep clean" done to tackle all the little things that get missed and start to add up. If there were 12 more hours in a day I'd do it myself, but I never seem to get time.

Hi Ole, my cleaner is looking for extra work and is absolutely excellent. I pay her ?10 per hour. I am sure she could get your flat sorted out in a couple of 3 hour sessions - she really works hard and has very high standards. Would you like me to ask her if she'd be interested? She does our large 3 bed house in 3 hours, including bed changing, and it was pretty dirty when she first started with us as we had had building works going on for months.

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.

Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
