  1. Admin, please could this thread be allowed to stay?
  2. It is at Belair Park, 12-9pm.
  3. Honestly, at your age, I would rent in a cheaper area. At some point you will want a mortgage? If so all the money you can save now could go towards a deposit. Have you considered New Cross, Lewisham, Nunhead, Old Kent Road, Bermondsey, Sydenham, Crystal Palace, Lee Green, Eltham itself? All of those will cost you a couple of hundred less per month in rent.
  4. Hmm, I wouldn't say ED is cool or trendy at all. It is a pleasant suburb which has the big attraction of two beautiful parks, an interesting High Street and very attractive housing stock with not too much bomb damage from the War. It is relatively safe and quiet but increasingly (because of enormous house prices) becoming the domain of the very middle class and middle aged. That makes for a certain bland uniformity, I find - I am sure you can find far more interesting corners of London within commuting distance of Eltham Palace.
  5. I don't know if the child was a Heber pupil or not? but a year ago to the very day, there was a similar incident with a year 6 pupil from Goodrich school. There was also an incident at one of the Village schools in 2009.
  6. A co-ed secondary school. Seems this falls into the category of totes unreasonable in SE22. And, yes, some proper market stalls on the "market" would be welcome.
  7. I know we have a fairly demanding and cumbersome rubbish/recycling collection system here in ED, but I wonder if people could be more mindful about what they are putting out on the pavements before collection days? Where I live I see open blue boxes and their rubbishy contents left on the pavements, green bins filled to overflowing with the lids open and associated smells wafting out, unwanted cardboard packaging left out for a week or more. I completely understand that we have little choice about all the recycling bins and boxes and that many ED houses do not have a front garden for storage, but would hope that people can be a bit tidier about their recycling. Or is that unreasonable?
  8. Yes please, SE22 would absolutely welcome and warmly embrace a new cinema. Am not sure about finding a suitable spot on the main drag of Lordship Lane though? Anyway, if it does all eventually work out and you get your lovely independent cinema, could I put in a request for some child-free daytime screenings please? :)
  9. Sympathies to you OP and have to say that this thread is completely putting me off having our loft converted! The front of our house is east facing and I keep all front room curtains closed until the early afternoon in very hot weather. Also keeping the cellar door open (if you have one) helps to cool properties down.
  10. Yes, most childminders do charge for their holidays. If you do a search for this subject on Mumsnet you will find some lively discussions about it and an explanation of the reasoning behind it. If you didn't pay for holidays they would simply charge you more per session.
  11. When this woman is tired of East Dulwich she will probably move to Crystal Palace and shave 50% off the mortgage.
  12. Please - can you not have your arguments in private if you must? This is so undignified and if anything makes me embarrassed to be intimately involved with Goodrich School. Its great that the school has had a good Ofsted.
  13. Hi Ole, my cleaner is looking for extra work and is absolutely excellent. I pay her ?10 per hour. I am sure she could get your flat sorted out in a couple of 3 hour sessions - she really works hard and has very high standards. Would you like me to ask her if she'd be interested? She does our large 3 bed house in 3 hours, including bed changing, and it was pretty dirty when she first started with us as we had had building works going on for months.
  14. I will put my hand up and say that I find I have less disturbed sleep since I moved away from the Northcross Road area. If you have a car the parking situation will eventually drive you nuts.
  15. Oh fuzzyboots! what a terrible thing to happen to you all and rip little Morph - he sounds an absolute treasure. Please pass on everyone's condolences and good wishes to Morph's owner. I can't begin to say how shocked I am that the police will not/are powerless to act if it is a dog on dog attack. That seems completely wrong, especially when the attack turns out to be fatal.
  16. I always thought A level results came out in August. U stands for unclassified, which is different to a fail. There's obviously a reason for this - what does the school say?
  17. Right, we have are planning to move after 18 very happy years in East Dulwich as we do not want our son to go to an all boy's secondary school. My daughter will be at Sydenham Girls so don't want to move too far away: does anyone know anything about the co-ed schools in Forest Hill/Sydenham/Norwood/Crystal Palace? Would be most grateful for any pointers.
  18. Oh I'm completely confused now - I thought the proposed Steiner school was going to be a secondary. Where did I get that idea from?
  19. I could never get to afternoon playgroups as my two children both napped 1pm to 3pm from age 12 months to about 30 months.
  20. I have a child on the waiting list for Kingsdale so am just as interested as Metallic in the exam results investigations, I just don't have his/her staying power! And am disappointed to see from Carbonara's helpful post above that the results of those investigations will not be made public.
