Pizza Express Dulwich Village

Recommended Posts

We had the misfortune to go here on Sunday night at 8pm for a quick pizza. Nothing could be further from the truth. There were only 2 other tables being served, all the staff seemed relatively new and took an absolute age.

You used to be able to rely on Pizza express staff finding you a table and putting a menu in front of you immediately.

They were simply not interested in serving us, it took 2 hours to get our 2 starters and 4 main courses- the latter of which were not served at the same time.Staff would rather set up tables for the next day than come and give us the bill.

At this rate it will become a Deliveroo kitchen, as that is all they were doing- apart from avoiding us who were clearly an inconvenience to them.

Indeed the Menfolk had cycled 100 miles- sometimes you just cant move across the road even. The "manager" seemed shocked we were disappointed.

Am I the only person that has noticed that some restaurants are so busy with deliveroo they cant be bothered with those people waiting in the restaurant itself?

Yes, deliveroo etc is a scourge on normal diners, as the staffs attention and labour is diverted to cater for this service as it has more of a time limit, to please lazy millenials who cant be arsed to walk to a restaurant themselves.

Oh and the men in crash helmets constantly lurking around, sometimes arguing with the staff right beside your table, or in the case of one driver in Honest Burger in Peckham, actually joined me and my girlfriend at our table whilst we were having dinner one evening.

I stopped using the Dulwich branch of Pizza Express a couple of years ago because of the appalling slow and offhand service. The last time we went, we had to sit upstairs, and after very slow service with our meal, they didn't bother to bring the coffees we had ordered, forgot to bring our bill, and turned the lights off upstairs. We didn't get a word of apology when we left. By contrast, the Herne Hill branch is very pleasant with polite and efficient waiting staff.

Perhaps email Pizza Express head office about the issues.

All these things can righted with good management and staff training.

The chief honchos need to be made aware if this branch does not live up to the expected standard that the brands name entails.

Personally I've only ever been there for lunch when its been quiet so can't say I've encountered any of these problems.

Obviously its in the evenings or at busier times that things go awry

I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
