free bike maintenance with hands-on tuition Aug 6th 6.30-8.30

Recommended Posts

Now in Camberwell Leisure Centre and a great deal easier to find, in unforgettably named Artichoke Place SE5 8TS. There's a photo here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/12650/ for those who don't know what it looks like. We've usually got a Dr Bike banner but regrettably the guy with the banner seems to have gone away and taken it with him. So no banner. But otherwise the same great service, and friendly knowledgeable mechanics.

This is a drop-in, not a course. What they teach depends on what bike problems are brought in. They fix what needs fixing and explain what they are doing as they do it. If you know you need parts (like wheels) then bring them with you. Like everything we do, it is free and open to all. No ID required.

This service is brought to you by great volunteers from Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk with full details of everything we think and do. For more info tweet @southwarkcycle, email [email protected] or text me on 07842 640 207. I probably won't know the answer but I can generally find out.

    • The last I heard was that an artificial wood is being used for the superstructure. I believe the bridge was rebuilt sometime in the 1980s so it’s evident that natural wood does not last very long in such a damp location. This alternative material is coming from Australia and has been delayed due to the Red Sea being closed and international shipping being diverted around the Cape.

    • Obviously, now discovered the real use of lime bikes, if you scroll through the pictures you will see they make effective bus blockers.  Personally I think if protesters had real courage in their convictions they should have used their own bikes and not someone else's 😉  BBC News - Peckham: Protesters block coach over asylum seeker transfer https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68943919
    • Can also add my recommendation for Leon from Electrical Initiative.  Very responsive, good communication, good price, and gets the job done well.
