Trying to connect with a smartphone, it detects the network but says 'can't connect'. On one occasion I was able to connect but then the PC connection (via ethernet cable) dropped, so it appears to be one or the other.

I was previously able to connect with another, older phone.

Any advice? Do I need to replace the router, and if so any tips on what to get? Should I get 'dual band'?

Try refreshing your router, small button somewhere on the unit will reset it. Are you able to connect at another wi-fi point? Have you set up a secure home network? have you allowed this phone onto your network? Dual band will give you connection on 2.4Ghz and 5.00Ghz. most devices run on 2.4 If you go for a dual band make sure it can broadcast/receive on both simultaneously. If your devices allow for 5.0 connection enable that as it will have a wider bandwidth allowing faster transfer speeds. Hope this helps!?! depending on your router, type in the gateway ip address and try reconfiguring the settings there might be updates to the firmware on your machine check with the manufacturers website.

Mrs Bob says she’ll liaise with the builders and that I should get out from the house so I don’t bother them with inanities. So I’ll be off camping to the Fort again for the Summer - June, July, August, whilst they get on with it. I’ll be in my Decathlon Arpenaz 4.1 fresh and black tent. I’ll have a campfire every Friday night like I usually do.
