The baby got her hands on a huge tub of the stuff and smeared it all over herself and the bedroom carpet. I've tried hot water with lemon to try to break down the grease but it's not had much of an effect.

any tips? We have a vax carpet shampoo ting, but would like to avoid using it as the shampoo we use for it seems to make me and Baby Lex a bit itchy and wheezy...

Baby powder on grease stains usually works for me when washing normal laundry. It absorbs the grease from the fabric first. I suspect if you put baby powder on your carpet now, you'll get clumps of the stuff mixed with the sudocreme, which you can vacuum up before you wash it as suggested in the previous posts.
Hmm, not sure I'm convinced of the chemistry behind that. All powders are not endowed with the same physicochemical properties. We recently had some homemade playdough in the carpet. It's basically an oil/flour/water mix. It was really, REALLY difficult to remove from the carpet (wet or dry). Personally, I'd shy away from adding flour to the sudocrem spot on the carpet, unless you've already tried this method on an unseen area of the carpet.

thanks for all your helpful suggestions :) The stain is better than this morning, but still there. It turns out our toddler was egging her on "I told Lex to mess! Look, lex mess cream!".

This is why we can't have nice things. *rocks back and forth in a darkened room*

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
    • They've had 26 years or so of trading, and if anyone deserves decent retirement... In my view they're going out at the top. It's clearly being sold, assuming it all goes through as a very more more than just a going concern.
    • I had heard this was on the cards a while ago, sad, the end of an era, but well done Rod and Tim for stewarding a beacon of excellence for so many years.
    • Both your hopes will be fine, I think. Our waitress will stay on. The downstairs is getting refurbished, and the bar area enlarged, presumably by removing that awkward little 'lobby' by the loos.
