I was visiting a friend in Burbage Road two days ago and we were just about to leave the house when a guy knocked and asked for a bucket of water - apparently he was cleaning someones car across the road, which I don't doubt because he was running a hosepipe from their house to the jag. Anyway, said friend, being kind and neighbourly and maybe too naive, asked me to go to kitchen to get a bucket of water for the poor man. He then asked her if she would like her car cleaned, she said she wouldn't mind, but as she was on her way to a meeting she was waiting for a radio taxi. "Don't worry" said scum bag scammer, "leave your car keys with me and I'll clean the inside and outside for a tenner". "No" says I "Don't leave your car keys.. Anyway, friend leaves in taxi, childrens nanny goes to collect her kids from school, I depart in my car and all is locked up. Well apparently, scumbag scammer hovvered around and told the nanny pon her return that he hadn't been paid the car cleaning, she goes back into house, phones boss on mobile to check story, no reply from bposs so hands over seven quid. In the meantime pregnant (or not) girlfriend turns up, who sounds not unlike girl from previous ED scam friends), swears blind the guy hasn't been paid, asks to use toilet as she is pregnant, thank god nanny refuses. I think I left out that friend on her way to taxi actually DID give scumbag robber seven qyuid on her way out. WATCH OUT FOR CAR CLEANERS

    • Hi - a friend sent me this link…   The car is neither abandoned nor stolen! (Nor ever has been, so not sure why that has been suggested). It is mine, I collected it from service (and MOT as identified by some on here) on Friday, driving home it had a bit of a hissy fit and broke down! AA attended on Friday, could not recover it until this morning. Spoken to the nice people inside Westminster carpet on Friday who couldn’t have been kinder, I moved the car back from the doors of the property as best I could without blocking more parking spaces. Recovery should be here imminently. Apologies for any inconvenience.
    • That's very odd if they won't answer. Do they just say "no, we won't tell you that"? I can understand they wouldn't want you to get the bread direct from their source instead of from them, but why not just say that? If they baked it themselves, I imagine they would be only too happy to let people know.
    • Possibly one of the other local garage owners may know? Also, it's possible if the owners and staff are still in the area that they might see your post. They didn't post on here themselves (to the best of my knowledge) but they must have known that I did, as a couple of times the lady who worked in reception phoned me to ask me if I could  post in the "Lost" section when something dropped in Hansler Road had been handed in to them. Unfortunately I only have their office landline  number, which presumably disappeared when they closed. Good luck! Hopefully your service manual may turn up in an unexpected place.
    • Well, that was my initial thought too, but having re-read the thread, it seems that the car was left outside Westminster Carpets. Maybe even middle-aged Lotharios can't ignore the low, low prices in their 'Remnants, Offcuts & Roll-End Sale'.   Do you know anyone with a second generation Fiat Punto (1999-2010)? Because 5 to 1, the key will fit.  I'm out of the country, watching the cricket, just now but if you can get it down to the Catford/Sydenham borders in the next couple of hours, I've got a mate who can 'look after' it. It'll be at Tilbury docks by 6 o'clock. Have you ever driven a car with an F1 style, flappy paddle gearbox before?
