Will ED and London all be shiny and in perfect working order after the Olympics? Or am I just kidding myself?

Will there be a train running to London Bridge every weekend from ED after the Olympics?

Will there be less roadworks and traffic delays?

We've just had Black Cherry, Liquorish and CPT refurbing ( and renaming) in time for the Olympics. What is next? Dulwich Cafe on Lordship Lane?

Kings X station looks nice these days and Blackfriars is almost there. Will Denmark Hill Station be ready in time?

What else is being done up in time for the Olympics that we can look forward to?

More years ago than I care to remember, when I was student, a friend from Sheffield and I were wandering around London having just moved here (though I grew up not too far away) and as we dodged the scaffolding/roadworks she said wistfully "It'll be really nice when they finish London..." to which I nearly choked with laughter pointing out that "Project London" has been going on for millennia and it'll never be "finished" in the way she meant.

So hopefully quite a few of these projects will be finished in time for the Olympics, but there will still be plenty going on afterwards, and probably less enthusiasm for getting things done since the big deadline won't have been met.

You'll see.

They think I'm off my crust as I creep about the caff.

But I'm really getting ready to surprise them all,

Because I'm busy sorting out the problems of the world.

And when I reveal all I may get a crinkly mouth.

I've given my all to the task at hand unstintingly.

When it's all over I'll rest on my laurels.

Here for a moment is a glimpse of my plan:

All the kids will be happy learning things.

The wind will smell of wild flowers.

Nobody will whack each other about with nasty things.

All the room in the world.

They take me for a mug because I smile.

They think I'm too out of tune to mind being patronised.

All in all, it's been another phase in my chosen career,

And when my secrets are out they'll bite their silly tongues.

All I want for my birthday is another birthday.

When skies are blue we all feel the benefit.

Glimpse Number 2 for the listener.

Everyone will feel useful in lovely ways.

Trees will be firmly rooted in town and country.

Illness and despair will be dispensed with.

All the room in the world.

They ask me if I've had the voices yet.

They don't think I know any true answers.

It's true that I haven't quite finished yet.

When it all comes out in the wash they'll eat their words.

I've got all their names and addresses.

Later on I'll write them each a thank-you letter.

Before I stop, here's a last glimpse into the general future.

Home rule will exist in each home, forever.

Every living thing will be another friend.

This wonderful state of affairs will last for always.

This has been got out by a friend.

Not to mention the courts being clogged up with all those people who stuck two fingers up to Seb Coe & Co and used the Zil Lanes anyway and then appealed their fines...

Anyone know if cyclists are still banned from these lanes? If so how will that be policed? Can't see the Met (much less the plod bussed in from the sticks) chasing cyclists through London's side streets to issue a fine when they're meant to be on anti-terrorist duty.

I believe that they've now decided that cyclists can use the ZIL lanes when they are kerbside ones. But that cyclists shouldn't use the 'tidal' ones that are down the middle of the road. Not entirely sure how they're going to police that one either...

    • If you read the article posted above, it is all very carefully worded. However I've found this: https://uknip.co.uk/news/uk/uk-news/peckham-rye-park-attack-man-seriously-injured-august-2025/
    • Angela Rayner had this country at her feet but as soon as I saw that photo of her lounging about in the kayak off her new seaside home, vaping and drinking!
    • This is horrible to hear about. We used to get daily Police patrols on foot & even regular patrols on horseback in the area. I know our local station had some bad eggs, but the officers I came across in the area back then were all a fantastic bunch. Sadly nowadays the Met's presence is non-existent, bar the weekly walk from the SNT. I hope something gets done, arrests made and the victim some genuine support and counselling.
    • Two wrongs don't make a right. Labour ran on a manifesto of "we aren't like them" and "we are different" and"you can trust us/we will restore faith in politics". They are doing nothing to convince anyone that any of those promises are being met - they are letting everyone down. u-turning on everything and are fast-tracking the doomsday scenario of a Reform government. Even the runway on the "it's all the Tories fault" is running out. I dislike politicians because they cannot be trusted and Rayner just highlighted that with ribbons on. She should have been so careful after the focus on the electoral roll issues she had with the house in Ashton-under-Lyne and then under a year later this comes up. Clearly the advice she took included a recommendation to take proper advice that she failed to do - that's just daft and the most galling thing is that she didn't just resign when this came up - she tried to spin out of it but must have known she was toast. Trust is fast being eroded. I desperately want Labour and Starmer to fix this because the alternative it too scary to think about but the way things are going they are fast-tracking Farage into No.10. Labour are letting us all down.
