Also would like to stop somewhere en route. Arundel?

Big fan of the vegetarian restaurant Terre a Terre, even though not vegetarian myself found the food very tasty.

I can second the Terre a Terre recommendation - it's great! You'll need to book early as they're usually very busy. Have a great time, Brighton is an awesome town :)

Due South is fantastic - local produce. You'll definitely need to book. It's under the arches on the seafront.

I have not been there for dinner, but I never go to Brighton without going to this place for brunch. It is amazing. If there is a queue it is worth the wait (and the queue normally goes pretty quick) http://www.bills-website.co.uk/

As for places on route, Arundel is a nice to wander round. The castle and cathedral are interesting if you?re into that sort of thing. I would also recommend Lewes as a nice place to stop.

The George and Dragon pub in Burpham [nr Arundel] is lovely with very tasty food.
