Live music venue in E Dulwich?

Hi there,

Anyone know of any cracking live music venues in East Dulwich? Ideally soul/funk/jazz/soft rock rather than anything too trendy! Suggestions welcome - its for a birthday party. Anywhere with outside space would be a bonus.

heh, not in ED.. it's far too mumsy and middle classed for all that ;-)

Boho/Adventure did live Jazz midweek for a bit but not sure that's still on, perhaps the wrong crowd?

I reckon you'll have to go to Peckham or Brixton for that kind of thing

I lived 2 mins from that in Herne Hill for 2 years but never visited it... think I might be remedying that tomorrow!

I don't think there's much market for it to be honest. The population is A little too old, not many 16-25yr olds

Live music is hardly for young people, although they do also seem to know what's fun....

If live music is only for young uns how come ace places like the Union Chapel etc are so frequently packed with all ages?

Tend to agree that it's just too staid round here - Lordshit Lane is like a mini Sutton on Fri/ Sat nights.

the Grosvenor in St Ockwell - OG punk venue that also has regular folk nights and much more besides. great beer and smokin' hot bar staff.

We had a sell-out gig at DHFC on Friday night with well over 200 people there, of all ages, to see Martin Simpson.

ETA: But it wasn't the kind of music mentioned in the OP, which was why I haven't posted before.

ETA: One of the emails we received afterwards (wouldn't normally do this but but a bit peeved that people seem to think there's nothing decent happening locally with live music :)):

But - it's LIVE MUSIC IN EAST DULWICH which The Goose Is Out! has been putting on on a regular basis for over four years ..... :))

Although folk is not my cup of tea, I think you're doing a great job! There are precious few gig promoters who are in it for the music.

ETA: And "folk" covers a very wide range of music - there's quite a bit of stuff described as "folk" that I don't like either.

Hob in forest hill live music every friday till 2am tues til 12pm some sat eves after comedy club and some suday eves... Opp forest hill train station

Have you tried the Old Nuns Head pub? We saw "Eli-rose and Garry" about a month or so ago. They did soul, r n b & soft rock covers and we had a great time & really enjoyed their range of music. She is young & has a fabulous voice and he's a great guitarist and they had someone on percussion too which was nice. They have a room upstairs for private functions and we've been to a couple of parties up there too. The pub posts in the What's On in East Dulwich section. Worth a look perhaps. . . ;-) PS And they have an outside space - a beer garden with tables.

The Rose, Dulwich, also has live music at least once a month. Next weekend, there is live jazz on the Sunday afternoon, I think.

I was in the Hob last Friday, and there was a very tight little rock covers band playing 60s & 70s stuff. They did a mean Hendrix.

East Dulwich may suit folk and possibly jazz *spits*, but can't think of anywhere that rock would really work.
