I am just going through getting quotes for my motorbike insurance, and the premiums seem to jump when the SE22 post codes are entered.

Is ED really that bad for vehicle theft? Some companies will not even cover me if my bike is left parked on the street!

Does ED have the problem, or is it being tarred with the London brush - i.e, ED is part of London, therefore vehicle theft must be high?

I had the same problem with my 1984 car. The renewal went up from ?330ish to ?770 !!!! (5 years no claims!) I shopped around loads and the chepest I got get was ?520. Ridiculous ! Apprently its the 'whiplash' no claim, no fee merchants that are forcing up premiums.
i had the same problem. Ive recently moved to the area. Funnily enough my car insurance went down by ?100 even though my car is not garaged, but my bike was another story. They refused to insure me if the bike wasnt garaged. I have to rent a garage a mile from my home just so that ive got insurance cover until i can find someone to insure it if its ungaraged. If you find an insurer that insures your bike if its ungaraged please let me know.

Jump from what amount? What area was it insured in before now?

My 13 year old car costs ?440 for third party insurance, down from ?480 last year. I did spend an hour going through all the comparison websites here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance to get that.

I would just like to pay for plain third party, and take the risk on fire and theft, but the insurance companies charge you more for that...and sometimes full comp can be cheaper...

Yes, it is mostly down to whiplash and fraud. Insurance companies also have very small profit margins these days after years of competition so need to compensate for that.

I can't remember the name of it but there's a central guide to postcode risk that insurers use and SE22 comes up as bikes only insurable if kept locked away at night. So any insurer who insures on road bikes round here is going against risk advice.

    • Miss Robson is the last of the old school independent vets. All the chains are have seriously hiked their prices over the last few years which now makes pet ownership only possible for the wealthy few. Even with pet insurance -( which often excludes items or has ‘deductibles’ ) it is just so much money. A visit with some medication is often £150 - £200. The vets themselves are excellent.
    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
