Strollers2
Does anyone remember a small Annexe pre school in Fireman's Alley in the 1950's? Any help gratefully received. intexasatthe moment
Times have changed "At some stage, the pub was acquired by the Courage Brewery who rebuilt it in 1924 and renamed it the Grove Hotel. The Tudor style of house was taken as the pattern for the rebuilding of many of their pubs and the Grove Tavern the first to be rebuilt in this style. "This house with its gardens, bowling green, garden bar and band stand, a dancing rink and hard courts for tennis, is considered one of the most modern houses in the south of London, and is delightful inside, with its tea and saloon lounges, and other up-to-date appointments."http://www.exploringsouthwark.co.uk/bews-corner/4587659588 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/236719-lordship-lane-estate-in-the-1950s/#findComment-1368964 Share on other sites
Strollers2
Thank you so much for that map. I used to live on the estate in the 50's and 60's. I even contacted Brian Green a local historian who said he could find no trace of the school. My sister and I are visiting Dulwich next month to see the area and park.
