PeckhamRose
123-reg are truly peeing me off. Every year a new problem and this year their instructions do not marry with what I see before me. Any advice welcome. Mine is a small webpage and I only update it a few times a year depending on jobs! About ten photos and a link to YouTube videos. Thanks for your advice. LadyDeliah
I used Fatcow, they are really good and cheap too. They have an instant chat thing with their technical people and editing your website is really easy with their tools.I did mine myself and it only costs about ?40 a year. Check mine out and see what you think: www.visalegal.com Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/23821-now-sorted-thanks-could-any-of-you-recommend-a-company-to-host-my-webpage/#findComment-550329 Share on other sites
Loz
I know 123-reg and their ilk try to make things easier, but if you are OK with the technicalities of html and ftp and the like, then I thoroughly recommend Orchard Hosting. Not the biggest set up, but very friendly and responsive - they sorted out a problem for me with a PHP configuration at 2am in the morning when I raised a ticket. Decent prices, too - ?2.50 a month for their smallest package. If you are coming from 123-reg you might want to check you own your domain name (especially if it was 'free') and that you can transfer it. PeckhamRose
Thanks for your help folks. I use Trellix to make my website. It is an ancient thing, although we still use it to update our websites, we need to find a new host. I am not at all technically able to use codes; Trellix did it all for us. It is a bit like Word in that way, just plopping facts and figures and photos around. So I want still to be able to use Trellix, just find a new host to place the website in.I shall check out your suggestions, and thank you so much for them! Huguenot
Crikey, I think you might be years out of luck.Trellix died almost 7 years ago I think, and was sold on to multiple companies. They licensed the software liberally to no-hope organisations and those contracts eventually fell out of favour.I suspect that's what your problem is with 123 even if they don't know it.Even the licenses to hardware companies fell out of contract, such that if you built the site using a freebie package with an antiquated PC those will no longer work with any hosting company. In the nicest possible way, it's a bit like casting around for a company that will still look after your Compuserve homepage. You just maybe need to move on?There's plenty of sensible opensource packs out there, is it worth waving goodbye to your Austin Allegro and accept that nobody either has parts or a road that it's legal to run on?I seriously question whether modern browsers are even capable of reproducing it in the way you imagine? PeckhamRose
No, that's not the problem. 123-reg have no problem hosting my little trellix built webpage, but they do have a problem explaining to me how to update my debit card so I can actually pay for a new year. I apologise for not making that clear in the first posting. But thanks for the information there Huguenot. I think the bar is set too high for me! Huguenot
Perhaps PM me with the website and I can have a look at it?I may be able to recreate it for you with a more modern solution, leaving you with only very simple editing to do?I'm thinking Wordpress has some great free solutions, but would give you your own domain name, bespoke design and video stuff for only 5 quid a month? It's really very very simple to use!Have a look at some of these off-the-shelf themes: wordpress themesDon't be confused by Wordpress reputation for blogging, it's also used for many large businesses. List of features.Incidentally, I don't work for them or have any interest in Wordpress. I don't even use them as I tend to need slightly more teckie solutions. PeckhamRose
Just wanted to say as per my opening post, the problem had nothing to do with the content of, or software that created, the website itself, and has been sorted with the help of a kind person from here. Character assasinations from others in a PM were not welcome and they missed the point of the problem. Thanks to (otherwise) good folk of EDF!
