Took my 19 month old to dr the other day as he'd been poorly (temperature, not eating etc) and then woke up with a funny rash. The dr has taken a swab to check for scarlet fever and we'll find out in a few days - in the mean time dr has prescribed antibiotics in case it is scarlet fever. Wasnt too worried as he has been pretty chipper throughout and is no longer feverish and had started eating again after being off his food... But since he started the antibiotics yesterday he has been grumpy and sleepy and was off his food again this evening. We are struggling to get the antibiotics down him in the right quantities as he keeps spitting it out - but I wondered if anyone has experience of children being a bit out of sorts after starting the antibiotics? We are going to keep trying to get the antibiotics down him of course in case it is scarlet fever - but would be reassuring to know of any others experience. Will also give the gp a ring in the morning but would be great to know if anyone has experience of this. He isnt running a temperature and has been quite full of beans today and ate lunch well - but was very tired at the end of the day and grumpy all day - didnt seem himself. He was sleeping badly over the weekend - so maybe he just needs a lot of sleep to help him recover?

Especially if he's not had the full dose of ab's think it'd be unlikely to be making him worse. Could it be that where he's still not up to 100% he's wearing himself out sooner in the day - kids don't realise they need to take it easy after they've been ill & so try to go at their normal (typically high) speed & run out quicker.

From your description it sounds like he's on the upward swing, but def give GP a ring if you're still concerned xx

    • At the time of posting previously, we had no idea of the dates we would be having the children. The maths place - you pay for a course of lessons . The coding session would be good but you need to book well in advance. Also grandson has been doing coding since 6 years old. He now has a 'mentoring role' at his primary school as his knowledge of this subject is years above his chronological age. Dates are still up in the air as their father is trying to juggle leave from a new job in the north of the country.
    • why not have a pasty shop - we could have Cornish pasties, Jamaican patties, empanadas from all the different regions.... I like all three.  I'm still going to support the Chacarero family business, as I don't support chains, just as I don't buy anything from Gail's, Nero, Starbucks etc.
    • Thought it had been a fish and chip shop at one time?
    • Try Gentrification, those with more money than sense who constantly want something different, when pie and mash isn't good enough for them.  "Argentinian Cornish pasties" give3 me a proper Cornish pastie any day of the week, at least I'd be supporting something traditionally British.   ps. tin hat at the ready........................🤣
