As a parent of a child starting reception class at Heber School in September, I've received a letter inviting parents to a welcome meeting on 5 July. It doesn't specify whether children are expected to attend so I contacted the school who say it is the parents' preference. My child is at nursery on that day and I have time off work to attend so I have the choice to take her out of nursery early to bring her along. On the one hand, if I come alone I will be able to concentrate and engage with staff (I have many burning questions as an anxious parent of a first-time school goer!) but if the majority bring their children (either through choice or lack of childcare on the day)we may miss out on a valuable bonding session of class of 2012!
It's been 3 years since I did this but I don't actually remember anyone taking their child (but did take younger siblings - babe in arms). It's not exactly an situation where you can care for your child and speak to teachers at the same time and I don't think there is a cr?che, unless this has changed. If you have the option then I would suggest you go without your child.
Many thanks EDmummy! You have definitely helped me to come to a decision. I'll almost certainly leave her in nursery and go alone. Even if it turns out everyone else has brought their children, there will be plenty of time for bonding!

    • Any ideas, the more novel the better, I've found loads, all still valid but I'll keep one just in case. I could use them as wallpaper, like they do with maps in cool houses. Send them to America where they still use them. Confuse a young person by asking them what they are for, or keeping them to placate a mugger, here you are mate have all of them. I've got a good idea that is not wasteful, but give me your real and/or odd suggestions.  No, not toilet paper.
