Hi everyone!

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I am trying to organise a 15th birthday party for my cousin but don't have a clue where to find a venue. I've heard that many places don't allow teenage birthday parties because they are too much trouble but surely there must be somewhere?!? It needs to be somewhere near here or honor oak/brockley/forest hill etc area.

If anyone has any ideas or knows of anywhere that would be great!!!

Rachel

What ever you do, don't allow the kids to advertise it on Facebook etc. A samll private teenage party at a local venue ended up having Noise Enforcement and Police attending as the youngsters had spoken about it on facebook, and it went from about 40 kids to nearly 200 turning up. The parents organising the party were forced to abort the

event half way through, and lost their deposit for the hall and were asked to pay for the damages incurred to the premises by angry teenagers who were forced to leave. I think this is why so many venues are apprehensive.

many hiring agreements state that events for under 18s need to be supervised by appropriate number of adults over

a certain age.

Pubs may not hire out their halls/rooms as they would not get any money from sale of drinks. Some schools will hire out their halls.

Thirded. The event at DHFC that led to a shooting and a fatal stabbing also started out as a private 18th birthday party. Someone then advertised it, including on Facebook, and it was said to to have turned into a pay party. I don't like being a Jeremiah or alarmist, and things can presumably go without any trouble at all, but better aware than not.

What is your budget?

Sports clubs eg oncs off of Dulwich Common will be fine, but will not be cheap.

Otherwise backroom or upstairs in a pub would probably be cheaper. There must be enough adults to act as door staff/bouncers.

That was the condition when we were all having our 18ths.

About ?700 for the Dulwich College place - used to be the Trevor Baylis Sports Centre, and more for their pavillion.

Dunno how that compares with the other suggetion.

But we are talking wedding reception territory in the above.

A really cheap place is the Aquarius Golf Club in Peckham/nunhead. You will have to use their catering though.

Or ?ks (that's thousands for a blow out at the conservatory at Horniman Park. Wasn't their a telly programme once about rich kids whose parents would spend 10s of thousands on their little treasures

I couldn't agree with you more Malumbu...I used to help out my friend who ran a bar doing private functions. I loathed doing the under 18 nights as there was almost, always trouble....and this was sans alcohol! In fact I don't recall a night when there wasn't any trouble. We were always assured by the parents, prior to the booking, that there would be sufficient number of adults to act as doormen but there never was - and when it came to it they were powerless to do anything...I personally think you're better off with a couple of actual beefcake bouncers! However, having said that Rach1983, hopefully your teenagers know how to conduct themselves better than the sods I had to deal with!

How many's the invite list? Are there any under 18 nights that he could just say he'd be celebrating his birthday at? We did that for a few - that way the club has responsibility for bouncing and the like, and it's all done and dusted by 10.30 (when they sneak off to the park with a 2l bottle of Woodpecker)

    • Thanks all, our hope was (despite the diminishing estate) he would get on with it.  Progress is glacial, it's been two years since probate was granted, that's two cold and damp winters with no heating, and not surprisingly a pipe burst. He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
