Bob Buzzard
My youngest son went out with his friends trick or treating this evening and someone gave him a Fry's chocolate cream! To an 11 year old boy? Who would do that? Surely it's just Haribos and such like tonight? Angelina
It wasn't originally an American festivity. It is Pagan new year and end of harvest, taken to America by immigrants from Ireland Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240708-frys-chocolate-cream-for-halloween/#findComment-1379611 Share on other sites
Bob Buzzard
Yes, I think marking the passage from light to dark in the Autumn is an ancient festival. diable rouge
Fry's Chocolate Cream points to an OAP, your son had a lucky escape as it could've easily been an invite to come in and sit on Grandad's knee and suck on a Werther's... nxjen
I?m with Louisa. What?s celebrated as Halloween now has no connection with the ancient pagan festival. It?s more to do with marketing and consumerism than a spiritual connection. Spartacus
He's lucky he got that and shouldn't be complaining, if you saw an 11 year old out on the streets begging you would call social services and get him taken away from his parents, yet as part of this commercialisation of an American tradition (trick or treating nor Halloween) you turn a blind eye to him going from door to door begging for "candy" (again an Americanism)Epic fail Bob in the concept of your thread as you are accepting and trying to gain acceptance to your son being a beggar How long before he is outside the station asking "any spare change guv for a cup of tea and a heroin fix" ?1/10 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240708-frys-chocolate-cream-for-halloween/#findComment-1379640 Share on other sites

Earl Aelfheah
Fry's Chocolate Cream are great. Knocks Haribo out the park. I felt that Brexit extension day was too commercialised this year. Feels like it's losing it's magic. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240708-frys-chocolate-cream-for-halloween/#findComment-1379749 Share on other sites
dbboy
In the good "old" days kid's would have made a Guy and asked passers on the street for"penny for the guy". You don't see that any more, in fact I've not seen it for years, shame though as another proper UK tradition fades into the abyss. Halloween is nothing more than yet another americanised commercial money making scheme brought from the US to here, which the UK has unfortunately copied. I wonder how many used the pumpkin for food before throwing the carcass out the next day?? Well quite frankly they can keep their so called "tradition" of asking for candy, the less we have to do with the US the better, especially when its run by a clown, who opens his mouth before engaging his brain into gear. Pretty much sums up America though. pk
in their day. my kids and still today many, many kids have a lot of fun at Halloweento me, that is a good thing (as their fun doesn't really cause any suffering for anyone else) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/240708-frys-chocolate-cream-for-halloween/#findComment-1379770 Share on other sites
Loutwo
Since when did Brits call sweets ?candy?? That?s what I?d like to know. We?ve become such a loser, copy cat, nation of capitalist consumerism. It?s embarrassing. Modern day Halloween can be stuck where the sun doesn?t shine, along with all other cringeworthy Americanism?s we?ve adopted.Louisa. TheArtfulDogger
Talking of americanisms Why does a soft drinks brand insist on running adverts saying "Holidays are coming" We don't celebrate Thanks Giving so We don't have Holidays in the same way they do Drives me absolutely bonkers every Christmas !!!
