Think the general tone has morphed into ranting. By it's title it presumably has served its purpose? By continuing to exist it's just serving the tinies in the main to keep up the ranting. So, we've all voted (or maybe not). Think if any if the rantees on here started a thread that indicated what they really wanted to spout then it would get shut down very quickly. There is little of the discussion you crave.

Thankfully most of those on here are not in the tinies.

Still you too will have a sore head when "teach" bangs it together with the other kids on here

Best way to kill a thread is by not posting on it and others will soon do the same

Whether you?re a Momentum supporter or not, your style of ?discussion? comes straight out of their playbook. Anyway, as you think that having the last word means you?ve won the argument, I shall give you this opportunity as I will not be posting again on this thread. As has been pointed out already, the only way this thread will close is if people, including yourself, stop posting on it - it takes more than making petulant demands to Admin.

You're right. It's only 'other people' who rant on here.....

Perhaps you take your own advice and start a thread to speak about whatever the heck you want, and stop interjecting in this one.....

Let?s add a little misogyny and objectification to the thread. I mean really, it?s what it?s been missing.

Here?s a recipe for Plum Puffs

Ingredients

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup water

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 large eggs

1/2 cup plum preserves

Confectioners? sugar, for dusting

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425? F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and brush paper lightly with water.

Combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a small bowl. Place water and butter in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn the heat to low and add the flour mixture. Mix well and continuously until a soft choux dough forms and pulls away from the side of the pan.

Remove the pan from the heat. Add one egg and beat until the mixture is smooth (see note). Add the second egg and beat again until smooth.

Drop teaspoons of the choux dough onto the baking sheet at 2 inches apart. (The puffs will double in size while baking.) Use a wet finger to smooth any peaks.

Bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Do not open the oven during baking.

Remove the puffs from the oven and turn the heat off. Close the oven door. With a toothpick, poke a hole in each puff to release the steam.

Return the puffs to the warm oven for 5 minutes.

Remove the puffs from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Use a serrated knife to carefully split each puff in half. Fill the bottom portion with a spoonful of plum preserves and replace the cap.

Arrange puffs on a platter and sprinkle confectioners? sugar over the top. Best served immediately to hungry bosom friends. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days or frozen for longer.

Notes

Use a wooden spoon or spatula to beat in the eggs, or transfer the mixture to a stand mixer with a paddle attachment.

I don?t know most people on this thread

I wish we could just go back to blaming ?cliques?

Simpler times

My tuppence: The thread is the thread. Points were raised. They remain of interest to enough people. Calling for the thread to be closed down is misguided. Threads die when people lose interest and move on. As it should be

    • Post much better this Xmas.  Sue posted about whether they send Xmas cards; how good the post is,  is relevant.  Think I will continue to stay off Instagram!
    • These have reduced over the years, are "perfect" lives Round Robins being replaced by "perfect" lives Instagram posts where we see all year round how people portray their perfect lives ?    The point of this thread is that for the last few years, due to issues at the mail offices, we had delays to post over Christmas. Not really been flagged as an issue this year but I am still betting on the odd card, posted well before Christmas, arriving late January.
    • Two subjects here.  Xmas cards,  We receive and send less of them.  One reason is that the cost of postage - although interestingly not as much as I thought say compared to 10 years ago (a little more than inflation).  Fun fact when inflation was double digits in the 70s cost of postage almost doubled in one year.  Postage is not a good indication of general inflation fluctuating a fair bit.  The huge rise in international postage that for a 20g Christmas card to Europe (no longer a 20g price, now have to do up to 100g), or a cheapskate 10g card to the 'States (again have to go up to the 100g price) , both around a quid in 2015, and now has more than doubled in real terms.  Cards exchanged with the US last year were arriving in the New Year.  Funnily enough they came much quicker this year.  So all my cards abroad were by email this year. The other reason we send less cards is that it was once a good opportunity to keep in touch with news.  I still personalise many cards with a news and for some a letter, and am a bit grumpy when I get a single line back,  Or worse a round robin about their perfect lives and families.  But most of us now communicate I expect primarily by WhatApp, email, FB etc.  No need for lightweight airmail envelope and paper in one.    The other subject is the mail as a whole. Privitisation appears to have done it no favours and the opening up of competition with restrictions on competing for parcel post with the new entrants.  Clearly unless you do special delivery there is a good chance that first class will not be delivered in a day as was expected in the past.   Should we have kept a public owned service subsidised by the tax payer?  You could also question how much lead on innovation was lost following the hiving off of the national telecommunications and mail network.
