DulwichFox
The Shard officially opens today... When it opens to the Public it will cost ?25.00 to see the view from the Viewing Gallery. They estimate there will be 1,000,000 spectators a year. You can get around paying this money by buying your own appartment... Estimated cost ?50M. The shard has approx 40 parking spaces. Bargain.. Loz
25 Quid??? It's only about 17 quid to go up the Burj Khalifa and at least that has the honour of being the highest building in the world. StraferJack
can't exactly have a pint afterwards tho can you Loz?It's a tall building - it would be nice to see view from the top but I'm not paying money to do it here, NY, or Dubai. PeckhamRose
I do. Can't wait. At least you have an idea of what you're getting for ?25. Unlike some theatre at the moment! StraferJack
FoxThe building sits on top of one of London's main train stations. Why would you want to drive there? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24326-the-shard/#findComment-557851 Share on other sites

Why would you want to drive there? I think the joke was wasted on you... The fact that you can see for I don't know how many miles.. would not matter where you parked it. Like Camberwell..??? Why do folk here take eveything so litterally ? Having said that.... Having worked in that area for most of the last 20 years (pre 2008) I can assure you many people do try and park there and regularly get clamped or removed.. Fox. Loz
StraferJack Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> can't exactly have a pint afterwards tho can you> Loz?Actually, you can. Alcohol is fairly widely available in Dubai. Mostly in hotels, but you are never far from a hotel in Dubai. katie1997
TOP TIP instead of paying a meagre ?25 for one poxy viewing, you could always PAY EVEN MORE and book into the hotel which takes up floors 35-50 (I think) of the Shard and enjoy the view from dusk till dawn...I cannot imagine what it would be like going up to the top floor (95?), makes me shiver just thinking about it. Jeremy
50M sure is a lot of cash. Although there are only ten of them, split over 13 floors, so they're going to be pretty damn big (maybe 8 times the size of an average terrace house). Jeremy
Ken Livingstone has been saying that it's brought jobs to "one of the most run down and deprived areas of London". Really?? StraferJack
Bermondsey st notwithstanding, that north end of southwark has some well grim areas. So from that perspective that statement standsFrom the rich and wealthy end of the things, I only have to mention anything about london bridge area (not the station) and I may as well be talking about mars to many of my colleagues Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/24326-the-shard/#findComment-557963 Share on other sites
Jeremy
Heading more towards tower bridge and bermondsey it can get a bit grim, but the closer vicinity of London bridge has always seemed perfectly fine to me.
