Hi everyone

I'm totally new to the East Dulwich Forum and haven't posted on here before. I'm hoping to be able to make some new friends and find things to do with my 15 month old little girl from about 4pm until around 5.30pm any weekdays. I work until 3.30pm in Sydenham and pick up my daughter at 3.45pm. We spend the afternoons either playing at home or going to parks or meeting up with friends with babies of similar age. Unfortunately within the next few weeks several of our friends are either moving away or going back to full time work, leaving us with not much of a social life in the afternoons. :(

I can't seem to find any toddler groups around 4pm onwards, so wondered if anyone knows of anything going on in the area around this time of day for babies / toddlers? We'd also be really keen to make new friends in the area, so if anyone with children of a similar age would like to meet up let me know!

Anna

Hi Anna,

have you looked on the edtots website? It lists all activities and groups by weekday so you can see at a glance what's on every morning and every afternoon.

We've been enjoying soft play at The Herne on a weds - there's a morning and afternoon session, afternoon is 3-5:00 so that would still give you a chance to have an hour of play by the time you got there, and give tea afterwards if your daughter has tea about 5ish, a fee people tend to stay and do tea after. I think it's not on for the next couple of weeks due to the venue needing the space for other bookings, but Kim who runs it will post on the forum to keep people updated as to when it starts again - a couple of weeks time I believe.

Hi Anna,

It might be a bit out of your way but Bessemer Grange children's centre do a stay and play session most days from 3:00 to 5:00. It's free and they give the kids toast. It's quite a small space and gets a bit hectic on wet days but is really nice when it's not too busy.

    • Anywhere near the Overground/Windrush due to its excellent transport links.  You will get larger place in SE23 for example that will give you enough spare cash for private school if that's what you really want but states schools generally good, reflecting the demographic  Easy to get to the bustling streets of East Dulwich but in ten years see what happens to Forest Hill centre.  The whole of the area is full of green spaces. Access to East Croydon for days out in the South Coast
    • Could East Dulwich or Forest Hill work? Some properties on Underhill Road and Wood Vale have large gardens e.g.  https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/161079866#/?channel=RES_BUY  You'd be close to the Horniman, Dulwich Park and Peckham Rye. Transport might not be what you're looking for though e.g. a 15 minute walk to Forest Hill station for the East London line or mainline into London Bridge.
    • I would leave London, or at a push move back to north London. In SE London if you want to get away in a car you are trapped, always an hour to go the first 10 miles, chugging up to the M4 or round the south circular, which is really just a line someone drew connecting a load of roads. and I know there are trains but first you have to get to those mainline stations, unless you only want to leave London to go to Kent. which I don't.
    • It was you who  made it personal in the first place,  Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets,  and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in  response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app  and go to sleep 😴💤
