gym recommendations

Recommended Posts

not strictly family, though kind of related - post baby (2 and a half years post baby!) I really want to start going to the gym, I'm in awful shape. Not an outdoor runner at all, so cross trainer etc for me. My nearest gym is the Peckham Pulse, which I'm not keen on going to in the evening.

Does anyone have any recommendations? And what's a reasonable price these days? For example, JAGS's fee of ?40 a month sounds alright, compared to what I recall paying at Virgin Active way back in the day. As far as I can tell there's no chains round here, but I'm not sure what's out there.

I know I'm easily put off doing any exercise so I don't mind paying a bit extra to get decent changing rooms, for example.

Thanks Family Roomers

Been going to Dulwich leisure centre and very happy with it. Good facilities, lots of machines, etc. I've heard that it can get quite busy in the evenings though. I only go during the day so no issue for me.

I used to go to esph on lordship lane and much prefer the leisure centre.

I just do pay as you go as I only use it once a week so I'm not sure what the monthly fees are. I think their website lists it out.

    • You probably don't need to understand it better!! But basically you used to be able to drive up and down Court lane and Calton Avenue across the Dulwich village junction with gay abandon and now you can't because that part of junction is now blocked by multicoloured woodwork and planters.  So Dulwich village is split in half for vehicles and you have to drive a long round to get from one side to other.  Some people (the majority who responded to Southwark's seemingly flawed consultation) hate this, especially those living on roads to which the through traffic has been displaced and those who have to drive alot further to get from one side of DV to the other and some people like it.  The debate will go on forever without a happy ending for some of the people.  That's it really 🤔
    • We live in a half house on Pellatt road and did a loft conversion a few years ago. No complaints at all! The walls on the adjoining side (the side where you share the front door) is a bit thinner than a typical Victorian home so we can hear our neighbours going up and down the stairs but otherwise it’s good.
    • Have you been back to Dugard & Daughters and discussed it with them yet? What was their response and reaction? There are other butchers to choose from. I've used the same one (not the one you mention) for probably 9-10 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Always get well looked after.
