I was thinking the same. My abiding memory was the local pharmacy suggesting it would open longer hours including evenings and weekends, as a way of opposing the application. If I remember correctly, the offer of extended hours didn't last long after the application was turned down.

Pre-school smackheads have rights too.

Oh FFS.

It was because I felt so strongly about this all those years ago - after, if memory serves, somebody was getting people to sign a petition against it outside the North Cross Road pharmacy - that I googled the issue and first came upon this forum.

Do people honestly think that addicts responsible enough to be using a needle exchange are some sort of danger to the public, including small children?

Get a grip. You're probably unknowingly working with some of them.

"Vehemently opposed" by how many people?

And supported by how many people?

And where did those figures come from? I don't recall a local referendum on the matter.

Yes, I remember the prejudice and total misunderstanding.

People seemed to think there was going to be an influx of hundreds of people dressed like tramps leaving infected needles strewn all over the area.

Not sure that local pharmacies are that far from DMC and they all provide repeat facilities.

Also from a governance perspective it seems wise for GP's NOT to profit from the pharmacy function and good pharmacists act as a check on what is prescribed which would be harder to do when your salary comes fro mthe GP's you might need to correct.

Very recently I was ill, and it was a real effort to walk from DMC to the nearest pharmacy in North Cross Road to get my prescription made up, and then walk back to my house, even though had I been well it is a very easy short walk.

Well James how else can the good doctors maintain their million pound mansions in Dulwich.

Surely Dr Gupta should be concentrating on fixing the problems at his surgery before expanding his business. It's not like he does not have lots on his hands already: recruiting enough gps for the number of patients registered at his surgery, fixing staff morale issues which mean gps never stay very long, ensuring phones are answered promptly, and in the meantime perhaps handing out coffees to people queuing from 7.30am outside his surgery to make an appointment.

    • I would recommend the Dulwich Test and Service centre that used to be in Hindemanns road and then moved to the little Trading Estate off Tyrrel Road. I've used them very happily for nearly 40 years. Paul and Reg Shires.
    • Such a shame as Dells is fantastic - a decent local business providing a great service to residents.
    • Ha ha that's hilarious - how wonderfully embarrassing for Reform!
