If you have a bit of time to spare, you could try the children's bookshop in Herne Hill. They're very knowledgeable about who's reading what and they have a good range for that age group.

Light on Dumyat Is very good. Remember it well from my childhood as Dumyat is a hill from where I am from. Our school trips used to go to the top.
