This is not my fault. Someone else mentioned trolleybuses first.

The London Transport Passenger Board had a ?southern conversion programme? to replace South London trams with trolleybuses.

STAGE 6 trolleybus routes:

Route 556 replacing trams 56/62/84 Forest Hill to Peckham Rye via Westminster

Route 560 replacing tram 60 Goose Green to City (Mon-Sat peaks only)

Route 562 replacing trams 56/62/84 Peckham Rye to Forest Hill via Blackfriars

All trolleybuses were to be operated out of a converted Camberwell depot.

In July 1939 the London Transport Passenger Board accepted that STAGE 6 might be delayed because of ?events?. Ten STAGE 6 training trolleybuses were ordered in September 1939 and ?desultory? work continued on planning electricity sub-stations until January 1940. The work then stopped.

After a review completed in April 1946 (the Menzler Report) concluded that motor buses were a more cost efficient replacement for the trams, the plans were aborted, and a public announcement made on 15 November 1946.

John K

Were trams replaced by trolley buses elsewhere during this period?

Also, interesting to note in the light of James Barber's support for the tram project that as early as 1946 the authorities realised motor buses were more cost efficient.

This was the Tram Depot in Cambertwell New Road next to the Railway Arch.

It could have been Trolly Busses. But they did not come.

The more people use public transit the cheaper and better it is, the more room there will be on the streets for driving and parking, the easier "essential" car journies will be

It is historic fact that the interests of petrol and petrol driven cars have repeatedly derailed other transit

some ideologies aren't happy with "win / win" they want "zero / sum" where only they end up on top

    • Another recommendation for Niko. Great communication, top guy, and super reliable and skilled - all at a fair price. Takes a lot of care in what he does and talks you through everything.
    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
