Hello,

Can anyone give me an idea of when primary school open days (for new admissions) are? Are they likely to be next term? Is there any kind of central list or do we need to contact every school to ask? Are they during the day?

I realise this puts me in the excessivly organised camp but I want to make sure I can go and will have either work or a newborn to juggle by then! eek.

have you looked on Southwark Council's website? I only say this cos I was talking to my sister about this today (her daughter will start next Sept) and she's watching her local borough website like a hawk as she's worried that open days will get booked up very quickly - might be different here though (she's not in London).
there are regular tours at schools (not sure if this is different) - e.g. doesn't Goose Green do something like first Tuesday of the month, and I know with Goodrichc they often do one on a Monday which you have to ring to book. In a way these might be more telling than a set open day?
It's probably best to wait to schools are open and ring them - I doubt there will be tours scheduled in the 1st two weeks of September in any case. The schools set their own tour arrangements and it varies greatly from school to school. Most school tours I think start at 9:15am so you shouldn't have to book a whole day off. The GG school tour lasts about 50 mins followed by coffee & chat with current parents. So you should be able to get away by 10:15 if needed.

    • I'm getting dozens of fliers a year from all the estate agents.  I'm not selling, thinking of selling or renting out. The one from John D Woods really got my goat as it is plastic coated so can't even be recycled.  I've emailed them.  They must be making so much money to to these mass mail outs.  I couldn't find the old thread about things that put you into an irrational rage (although this rage is not irrational) I have a nice time too watching GB win their first medal at the Winter Olympics - that is an understatement! I'll burn it, sod the tiny impact on air quality.
    • @PenguinYou will have to explain this to me bearing in mind your and others outrage at a possible new scheme on Ryedale, and the use by many on this forum of Southwark News to support their reaction. I don't know what precautionary mindset means.  The precautionary principle is that we need to act now for example in tackling climate change rather than wait twenty years for conclusive evidence (that was the situation in 2006 when Stern published his report) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stern_Review
