Hi all,

As a local mum, I thought we can help each other.

Here are some ideas Amanda (who works with me) and I have had so far for home schooling.

We think it is a great chance to teach kids some life skills, not just to keep their maths and English going.....

Firstly (and thank you to my Amanda in the office for realising this could help parents too)...

I am doing daily "Cupboard Cookery Classes" on Instagram (via Instagram TV) ? [www.instagram.com]

This could be used as part of your home schooling timetable - I will teach basic cookery skills along with easy recipes based on what you might have in ? you can even tell me what is in your cupboard and I will try to come up with a recipe.

Art:Bob Biddulph Art - Google "Draw with Bob" he is doing twice weekly challenges on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Drama: Google "The Drama Geezers" they are doing classes (daily we think) - gets kids moving!

Language: Duo Lingo is amazing, and if you have any friends overseas, get them to do a daily FaceTime classes - so many of us are housebound - let's all help each other learn a new language!

Maths: Amanda has found an AMAZING maths tutor who can do online classes, she's brilliant - find Amy Chiu on Facebook if you are interested.

Art History or Cultural stuff: Do you have any friends who worked in museums now stuck at home? Would they do a daily FaceTime on art/culture?

English: Let's all read books again!

Project work: let your child choose a subject and do a project, get them a nice scrap book (off Amazon maybe)? to use to set it up.

Science: You can get fun stuff on Amazon

Workbooks for age bands: You can get on Amazon

Life skills: sewing, mortgages, banking and life in general. Also subscribing to "This Week" newspaper for children and going to use that as a basis for some study each week.

This is just a start, and we are both new to all this, so please add your top tips below!

Take care, all of us at Suzanne James Catering & Events

    • Nope that is boring,  I want something creative.  Maybe turn them into Xmas cards.  I understand from those daytime television programmes that don't involve buying houses, DIY, antiques, bargain hunting and the second World War that this is called 'upcycling'. AI suggests: Upcycling old cheque books can involve repurposing the paper from old checks into creative items like notebooks, journals, art pieces, gift tags, bookmarks, decorative paper, or even small boxes, by cutting, decorating, and assembling the paper to create new functional or decorative objects, while ensuring any personal banking information is properly obscured or removed. And there is vid too
