With everyone at home all the time, is anyone else noticing how ridiculously quickly the bins are filling up?

I'm not sure what proportion of commercial premises/schools etc have council collections versus private contracts, but given high street/commerical estates/schools are likely to be significantly scaled down waste, doesyone have any knowledge on whether it's worth asking the council to perhaps explore reallocating existing resources towards more frequent residential collections....??

Hi TheCat,

Most organisations have commercial waste contracts. I suspect many are cancelled to minimise costs for those organisations. Schools etc are charged by most councils for their rubbish collections. So again I'd expect most schools to cancel their waste contracts while they're closed to conserve their cash and redirect some to iPads and the likes for kids without such devices for home schooling.

    • I’ve asked them where they get their bread from, or if they bake it, and they won’t answer. Which is disappointing
    • I’ve been ordering from Butter & Crust now for 5+ years and it’s a brilliant service. The bread is fantastic as are the selection of pastries, milk & butter. The apple juice is also incredible and you can change your subscription to what suits you - I opt for every other week ☺️  I have a voucher if anyone wants to try, you get £10 off your next order with: HANNAHM_2
    • Yes, thanks, that's true, the previous information on here might be out of date even if I could find it. I was hoping someone on here might have up to date info. I will phone them in the morning.  I had a previous thread on here about the Oxfam book shop but for various reasons I haven't been able to get stuff down there, and now I just want it out of the way.
    • Best to call them. What might have been the case last week may not be now. There's also Oxfam book shop in HH
