Do these politicians actually think that anyone now listens to them reading a lengthy prepared statement, i.e. Priti Patel this afternoon, with no personality or inflection whilst reading it.

Do others agree that this is becoming a waste of time, they could just as easily post a statement on the Gov.UK website for those interested.

Perhaps to make this time better used they should report anything significant (no lengthy bumbling statements), a summary of the graphic data and worthwhile questions from the press/broadcasters, (not asking repetitive questions or those aimed at attempting to trip up the Government).

The problem with the briefings (and with Trump's briefings) is they are not there to provide a service, they are happening to give the impression of providing a service.

A lot of time and effort goes into spinning each briefing, regarding the general public as stupid, carefully ignoring key advice from medical advisors, then presenting fiction as fact in a perpetual homage to Franz Kafka.

What I'D like to know is what is happening with Brexit. Predictably though, it's no-deal via the back door - Covid being the best 'bad news' to bury other issues under.

True to form, doesn't want the Gov to come under scrutiny and doesn't want his inane ramblings scrutinised either...

Surprise!...another wrong assumption, we've got ourselves an Uncleglen Mini-Me with his 'when all else fails, play the corbyn/momentum card'.

I don't need to pick holes, your 'solutions' are great gaping holes. Ever thought about retracting them?...

Nothing like UG

Suggest you champagne socialists go and join corbyn et al on a one way ticket and live under a real socialist society in Russia. There you can live the socialist dream and really experience it first hand(you won't last long and you'll soon be begging to come back realising what its actually like), and with out getting sunk as Corbyn so successfully achieved five months ago with the fourth successive, worst election defeat losing -80 constituent MP's.

Today's briefing - what a joke after the third media rep. asked the same question that had been asked and answered twice already I switched off with full admiration for Grant Shapps and Jenny Harries for keeping their cool. If these briefings have shown us one thing it is that REAL journalism is DEAD

A shame you switched off, you would've heard Shapps saying Cummings stayed put. They are now gaslighting the country in real time...

If you are so opposed to this government let me remind you again, five months ago the people of this country made a catergoric decision and elected the current administration by a land slide majority.

Labour got tranched and sent packing with their tail between their legs, your leader (if you can call him that) resigned and even Rebbeca Bailey or whatever her name was has vanished into the mists of time, supposedly being corbyns replacement, but wasn't.

You've got starmer who at least asks sensible questions. Perhaps we'll can now with an opposition we'll get better govt. But then I suppose you won't be happy till you get the red flag flying over no.10, but that ain't happening.

dbboy - Your responses say more about you than they do about anyone else. Address the valid points being made. Resorting to silly playground sneers undermines any point you are trying to make.

If Labour were the government, they too would be scrutinised in exactly the same way.

Also acknowledge that a FPTP electoral system does not accurately reflect the way people vote. We would need a PR system for that. And under a PR system, you would in fact find that most people who voted (bear in mind a third of the electorate did not), voted for other parties and not the government. This is also precisely why both main parties have never supported any move to switch to PR. Why move away from an electoral system that delivers absolute power without the need for a majority of the electorate to vote for you? So offering any GE result as some kind of mandate for a majority of people is nonsense.

If you're bored of the daily briefings, why not have a bet to see who's next to exercise their obfuscatorial qualities. Despite the short odds I'd rule out Shapps, he was on the morning shift and by lunchtime he'll be safely ensconced in his pied a terre slowing banging his head against a wall. So my money is on Jenrick...

    • By now you’ve hopefully seen that our main demonstration against Trump’s state visit is in London on Wednesday. Many of you have also asked, though, about how you can help ‘welcome’ Donald Trump to Windsor when he arrives there tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. So here’s the plan: We’re asking you to come and line Windsor High Street tomorrow in a peaceful, static protest.  Time: 6pm, Tue 16 Sept Location: Assemble outside Windsor Parish Church, High St, Windsor SL4 1LS and then spread out along the High Street. Grab some cardboard and a pen and make a homemade sign to show Donald Trump and his supporters what you think of them!  The world’s media will be in Windsor to cover the state visit, so showing visually that he is not welcome will send an important message far and wide. If you are coming then please join this Signal chat group for important updates.     Protest safety Please buddy up and come with someone else You have a right to peacefully demonstrate, but we are expecting a high police presence. Remain non-violent and non-confrontational, and do not talk to the police. It may be better to dress inconspicuously, not like an ‘activist’ We plan on ending at 7.30pm. Please leave in groups of 5–10 and make sure you have a bust card This action is entirely legal but we still recommend that you read this key advice when going on a protest to know your rights. Remember:  No comment No personal details Ask ‘under what power?’ No duty solicitor Don’t accept a caution Here is the protest support line: 07946 541 511 and here is more information on Stop & Search under the Public Order Act.   Thank you for being part of the movement against Trump. In solidarity, Stop Trump Coalition
    • We booked a day when we could drop around 8 bags. They directed us to use the rear entrance on Carver Rd. I would definitely ring as they don’t seem to have much space at the back. Our experience was great, they were very polite and thankful.
