Is there going to be any decent competition for the Hoopers Pub Quiz tonight?

Recommended Posts

I was well impressed by having someone else name their quiz team after me. Fame indeed. But you have to agree it's a shit quiz. And only 6 teams in it. How much did you 'win'?

Also questions were asked about the fact that your lot seemed to have exactly the same wording for some of your answers as us. Coincidence or something more sinister?

The Plough's on a Thursday. I've yet to try it so it'd be a neutral venue. Hoping to get along next week though, as always, it's dependent on the babysitting situation.

We won over ?40 which seems a pretty good return - I don't think Hoopers keep any of the pot.

Ha - that's brilliant - we spent most of the night getting annoyed with each other as we thought we were saying the answer too loud and have fallen foul (we suspect) in the past of what you are suggesting. Not a chance any of our team would do that.

"the same wording" - give me an example...

I think I've now worked out which team you were at least.

I'll see what I can do re: Thursday but as most of us have "babysitting" issues too we don't make it down that often (which is nice for other quiz goers to get a chance at winning :))

Finally - something for you to peruse until we compete again...

You may go to The Plough and win but you'll always know it doesn't really count because somewhere out there is a crack quiz team who can (and has) crushed you on a whim...

No idea Jamma re: The Vale, but I know that the music quiz at the George Canning was fiendish

(is that quiz still going btw? It was always teetering on the edge of not happening but good fun nevertheless)

No we were at the George Canning on the Tuesday night. But I can exclusively reveal that there is no quiz on a Tuesday night at the Canning. Bah.

Next up it's the Prince Regent in Herne Hill.

Returning to Hoopers time after time shows a lack of ambition Mr Nutty. How many teams did you have to 'defeat' this time? 2?

    • Certainly the infamous (and mythical) SE London cat killer turned out to be foxes attacking dying and dead cats injured by cars, but fox: cat encounters do appear to happen, even where cats are victorious. Fox: adult humans less so. At least where foxes are the aggressors.
    • That was very kind of you to take the cat to the vet. Did the car not stop?
    • This is a bit outside our area, but I'm posting in case .... Last night (Sat.20 Dec), around 10.30, we saw a cat hit by a car in St Norbert Road, SE4.  We took him to the out of hours vet in Beckenham, where they confirmed that he had died.  They will see if he is microchipped, and contact the owner if so.  They were very kind.   He was a lovely cat, grey and white.  He must have died very quickly.  So sorry to be the bearer of bad news 😞 The vet is Medivet in Beckenham, tel: 0208 650 2003.
    • Watching my cats over the years with foxes, I've found that foxes have totally ignored them. One exception was when a young fox hadn't seen my cat and found himself eye to eye with my cat at a distance of 1 metre. There was a stand off but the fox blinked first and my cat chased him out of the garden. So proud of her. I believe when foxes have attacked cats, the cat has been vulnerable  - old, young, ill wounded.
