dulwichgirl2
Would anyone advise on a builder who could quote for this, please? I think it is reasonably straightforward and just involves moving things around in quite a small bathroom to accommodate a washing machine too. We also need advice on any approvals we need to apply for so the builder needs to be conversant with building regs. Thank you. dulwichgirl2
Many thanks RD. Any other recommendations? (we have a lot of jobs that have accumulated - my husband insists this is normal but everyone else I know seems to crack on with them. Alan Medic
Are you sure you can legally have a washing machine in a bathroom? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25350-redoing-bathroom/#findComment-573328 Share on other sites

Salsaboy
I'm fairly certain you can't unless it is in a separate cupboard within the bathroom.Alan Medic Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Are you sure you can legally have a washing> machine in a bathroom? dulwichgirl2
Oh no. We hadn't thought of that. It is just a cloakroom - ie loo and whb- if that makes any difference? dulwichgirl2
Salsaboy, yes it would be ina hidden cupboard for aesthetic reasons at least. Does it really have to be for some other reason too? Thank you. red devil
Water and electrics DG2...I think it will also need to be on a fused spur, switched from outside the bathroom on a RCD circuit...make sure a competent Part P qualified electrician is used... Alan Medic
It's confusing Mick. The thread title says 'Redoing bathroom' and it appears to be a toilet. Next time I need advice on repainting the bedroom I think I'll call it the West Wing. dulwichgirl2
Sorry, yes, it is a loo and whb currently. Red devil, yes, we aren't totally behind the curve and had worked out the water and electrical issue plus the need for a suitably qualified individual. Now, I am abit demoralised. It seemed like an easy task at first. Now, mountains of paperwork at best. Alan Medic
What paperwork dg2? It's just a matter of knowing what can be done and how it can be done. I guess the most that's required is that the electrics are outside the room, so the cable goes through a wall or partition. The fact that what you are really talking about is a toilet and a basin.........well it's not much different to a kitchen where most people have their w/machines i.e in terms of water. red devil
Now that it's officially a cloakroom, and not a bathroom, no need to go to extreme measures to isolate the washing machine electrics.
