Me again ,

As a nanny I no I shouldn't have to ask so many questions but all of a sudden not being able to clock off at 6 o'clock is becoming harder and harder

So baby had his 3 rd set of jabs yesterday lunch time and during the night he woke me at 3am he was roasting with a tempture of 38.2 he had already had calpol so he couldn't have anymore I stayed awake until 6am keeping a eye on his tempture and after stripping him off to his nappy it went down to 37.5 . Today he woke up with big Rosie cheeks and has been a bit miserable all day , his gone to bed tonight with calpol and tempture is okay at the mo but has been up and down all day ,

Could this be because of his jabs ?

I have read up that a huge number of cotdeaths are caused by over heating and now I'm freaking out

What if his tempture rises to much in the night and Im asleep ?

How high is too high ?

He is only 4 months old (20 weeks) He has two teeth already but with didn't have problems with these two coming through maybe he has more coming that's y he is poorly , his also on new milk could it be that

Should I stay awake all night to keep a check on him ?

What would you do ?

yes - call seldoc. Also, NHS direct can be very helpful. And check about what combination of nurofen / calpol for babies you can give at that age (I cannot remember, but I did find nurofen much better at bringing a fever down, must be different reactions?).

Hope it gets better soon

I think you can still give baby Neurofen (ibuprofen) even if you've already given Calpol (paracetamol). NHS direct can give you more info anytime, phone 0845 4647.

It's normal for some children to develop fever after their immunisations, but a fever that is high or prolonged should always be investigated.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things, keeping him cool. Can he sleep on a towel w/o a nappy? Where is his bed? Is the room cool and well ventilated? If you're worried, can you sleep near him? Don't forget you need to rest too. xx

Exactly the same thing happened to baby strawbs and we ended up gp first then at Seldoc out of hours to which they said it was a virus which I thought was absolute rubbish, it was quite clearly the jabs.. I was told give calpol and 45 mins later give ibuprofen (be aware this can make reflux worse so I only do this when absolutely necessary).. Keep him cool clothing wise but no cool cloths or baths.. Try to keep fluids up and call nhs direct however many times you need to, I found them really patient and helpful even if they just confirmed I was doing all the right things.. X

Thank you everyone I did phone nhs direct and got some advice I was able to give him calprofen and he was fine last night , his room is always kept at 18/19 but I'm funny about leaving window open as we r ground floor house conversion and his room is at the front of the house !

Thanks for all your comments hopefully tonight I won't feel the need to check on him every hour

    • Get on those waiting lists asap if you haven't already. I waited till after the birth and it was very challenging getting a place once our daughter turned 1.  She ended up at LEYF Camberwell (we had to accept 2 days to start and gradually got to ramp up 5 days). She absolutely loved it there after an initial shaky start but her key worker and team worked really hard to settle her in. They spent a lot of time giving her cuddles and making her feel safe. Great outdoor space and really caring, enthusiastic staff with low turnover. Would highly recommend.
    • We are expecting a baby in a few months, and have heard about the epic waiting lists for nurseries in the area... We have been to look around, and are considering, LEYF Camberwell, N Family Club Camberwell and Purple Jay Herne Hill. Would love to hear any feedback from experienced parents!
    • Most of the shops in LL have too small a footprint. That's why we have so few chains. That won't change quickly.
    • Errr could it be because of the noise pollution coming from it perhaps? You may not be able to hear it where you live but anyone on the Dulwich Village side of Lordship Lane all the way to beyond Brockwell Park is being disturbed by it - the sound wash from it is huge and that's a lot of people. As I said before we know people who live nearer to Brockwell Park to us and they say it is unbearable.   To be fair the Emirates moved to a piece of wasteland between railway tracks so it actually in a less densely populated area now and the council actually goes out of their way to try to mitigate the impact on local residents and yes, other than the concerts, you could hear a pin drop on matchdays! 😉
