My nearly 2 year old has been doing messy poos for a few weeks - varying in how gross they are but definitely not as solid as they were- he is loving blueberries and eating a lot of strawberries and blueberries - im guessing these are the culprits as he is in fine spirits and doesnt seem unwell - does anyone have any tips on how much fruit is too muCh and / or what foods are good to make sure he has aswell to - ahem - bind him up a bit! I think eggs are quite binding? He doesnt drink Cows milk as that tends to make him constipated (has oat milk instead) but maybe i ned to put some cows milk back in the mix?

Sorry for the rather disgusting nature of this post!!

Have had this with my little one too, lots of soft fruit was the culprit for us. My mum always said apples and eggs were binding... not sure how much fruit is too much, but as he loves the soft fruit so much then anything you can do to reduce it a bit would help (but I'm no expert!). No idea about the effect of cow's milk on it though.

Good luck!

Bananas are binding. Apples have fibre in so will have the reverse effect. Try low residue stuff like white rice, white pasta etc if you're really worried or as you say, just less fruit. Perhaps a trip to the GP for a stool test (sorry) would ensure it's not a mild bacterial thing. Both my kids went through these phases. Unless they had a temp or seemed ill, I ignored it and it always sorted itself out with some mild dietary tinkering.

My eldest, at around 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 yrs developed what the doctor called Toddler Diahorea.

This sounds like what your little one has. It is brought on by too much fruit and fruit juice.

My daughter loves fruit, and would have chosen an apple or banana over a chocolate cake every time, and so it was quite hard to hold her back from eating fruit.

Even bananas, which when she was weaning had a binding effect, now seemed to have totally the opposite effect.

We increased the fibre content in her diet, made sure if she did have fruit juice, it was very diluted, and if she had any fruit, she only had a small amount.

She is 2 1/2 now, and seems back to normal now. We still keep an eye on it - I am sure that nothing in excess is ever all that good, but definitely the poos are less spontaneous etc etc.

Miss Oi's poos have always swung between pretty solid and pretty splatty (sorry!), with no rhyme or reason to it as far as I could tell, without it seeming to affect her well-being so I've never bothered to do anything about it. She's veggie, but doesn't eat much fruit and no juice, and always white bread, rice and pasta. Might be the heat? Or nothing at all? If she's perky I wouldn't worry too much (though I have a very cavalier attitude to this kind of thing).

    • bizarre responses from everyone but Cancerian 🤷🏾‍♀️ As an LL resident surely a perfectly normal enquiry in that one might wish to know who to look out for if lawless/feral kids are wreaking havoc? any distinguishing marks on the perpetrators? presumably the objection is that a physical description might reveal the alleged culprits as non-white? (nothing else makes sense with this bourgeois over-sensitivity). same botched thinking that causes police descriptions of suspects on the loose to omit this info  (top way to protect the public / solve the crime) FYI i'm a mixed-race female and interested in THE TRUTH. hence, i want to protect myself & my family against criminals. so please DESCRIBE the physical appearance of criminals or suspected criminals to help to keep us safe. thankyou.  "underlying agenda... strange" 😂😂😂 strange agenda to wish to be safe in my community. well played 🤯   working the nightshift here & getting mildly obsessed/infuriated with the peculiar responses. someone please explain how wishing to be able to attempt to identify, physically, the perpetrator(s) of an alleged local assault is "strange", with an "agenda"? God help us. (wait... "God"? must be a far-right religious maniac) "Unless there were distinctive features such as unusual clothing, how is that going to identify them"... green & purple mohican with accompanying buffalo 🦬 horns through the nose might do it; or simply hairstyle, skin colour, sartorial outfit... 🤔 "and even if it did, what would be the point, without photographic evidence that they had done anything wrong?" eyewitness reports? 😏
    • Unless they were wearing school uniform with name tags otherwise children do change their clothes you know.
    • I'd also recommend Silvano for anyone in the area looking to learn automatic, having just passed first time with 5 minors. He's a very patient teacher and ensured I learned how to drive safely above all.
    • You don't need to do the research. I had to know the numbers as a TV buyer. I analysed the potential advertising revenue and Channel Four didn't cover their costs. They had some nice 'Channel Four' signs when someone hit the ropes but, In all honesty, a lot a potential revenue was lost because most old knackers were pissed off because they couldn't perve at Carol Vorderman on 'Countdown'.       Sorry, cross-post. I was replying to Malumbu. Give me a minute, if you will. I listened to the first two sessions (today) on TMS and popped down to the pub for the evening one.   I do miss the days of Peter West, Richie Benaud and Tom Graveney on BBC2.   But, the BBC are at least putting on 'Today At The Test' on at around 7pm instead of after midnight.   And it was on the 10pm news.
