Where to get a good kitchen worktop?

Ideally we'd like a quartz worktop but we're thinking that's out of our price league unless anyone can recommend anywhere that's a good deal? Does anyone have any suggestions for anything cheaper than quartz but not wood, bamboo or laminate or know anywhere that does 'nice' laminate? I'm fussy but without a fussy persons budget! I contemplated making my own out of concrete but eventually realised I have no-where to make it!

Hi there. You could consider Howden joinery if you want to keep budget low. They have some cheaper and some more expensive and nicer laminate worktops.

Happy to give you a price to fit a worktop if you choose one - good luck....

Thanks for your reply Red Devil.

We can't decide which is part of the problem. We don't know if we should spend more for it to be more appealing when we want to sell and just because I'd love it more, or if it's not necessary or silly to do that. The quartz one I quite like is ?228 (one of the cheaper ones on that site) per linear metre but would need to add edge polishing, holes, templating and fitting for a quartz one, as I wouldn't want to mess it up at that price! It's a small kitchen so we need just over 4 metres in total.

Personally, in a kitchen I think it's always better to get a good quality worktop, one that will perform and last, and quartz is a good choice.

Have a chat with this company http://www.lbsstonecollection.co.uk/index.php?page=content&title=Quartz&cms_id=63

They should be able to give you an idea on price, and don't be afraid to haggle them down within reason.

Unless you go for a cheap laminate or more workable timber, it's best to let the supplier template and fit. Templating is important as walls very really tend to be flat/square...

I would agree with red devil and is possible, not scrimp on the quality. If you are reselling in the near future you should keep the colours neutral, but invest in a good qualilty worktop as if you end up staying where you are, you will need to be happy and not look to change the worktop again.

I would recommend getting the suppliers to install the worktop as it can be tricky and you could end up with a kitchen woktop that needs replacing or worse ruined due to a poor cut.

I liked the look of these quartz worktops http://www.planetgranite.co.uk/product-range.html - not sure if that helps at all, I think these guys are nationwide.

Hi, we used granite net in vauxhall and although we love the worktop the fitting was awful. they didn't return calls etc to sort it out. Unfortunately we weren't in when they did it (had planned to be but had a family emergency) and my boyfriends sister paid them and they basically said it wa too late etc. they drilled the tap hole about 10cm off plan so we had to cut up the cupbaords etc and they didn't fit to our Victorian not straight walls so badly that my boyfriend had to put a thick layer of plaster on before tilting otherwise there have been a massive gap behind. Also the join on a corner isn't the best but other than that it does look really good so I do recommend quartz but not granite london!

Apologies for typos- I'm on my phone

    • If you want to talk about tax you have to contextualise it - this is not a highly taxed country but it is a country that needs money - so what do you propose?   if you dk t want to live under a left wing govt that’s your choice but how do we get from left wing govt to Russia?   you make no sense
    • Nope, not "complaining or moaning", stating an opinion. Tax - yes we are taxed to the hilt, the threshold is £12570, Govts not increasing this means more and more people get dragged into paying tax. HMRC are a joke, even if you're below that figure they take tax that has to be claimed back as its wrongly deducted.  Inflation is supposedly dropping, the reality in the shops is the total opposite, week on week almost, prices increase, utilities increase etc. I don't want to live under a left wing govt, if you do, suggest you try living in Russia.
    • But only the first g in garage is a "hard" g? The second one is a "soft" g whether you pronounce it "j" or (not sure how to write it, but even softer, like a cross between "sh" and "j"?) So surely Malumbu's hard g in Farage would be like the first g in garage, not the second one? I can't believe I am wasting my time writing this irrelevant drivel 🤣
    • I'm currently on a little mission to recommend Jovaner, who I've recommended here before, and who has done lots of work for me over the years. The scope of works he can take on, and his skills, have expanded over the years. He now comfortably undertakes full house renovations, including bathroom and kitchen fit outs (he is currently doing my bathroom as we speak). He is a talented carpenter, tiler, plumber and decorator, and has the highest standards of any tradesperson I've every worked with (have a look at the kitchens and furniture that my company - West & Reid - makes for a frame of reference for my standards, if I say so myself! 🙂 Jovaner always meets and goes beyond my expectations. There aren't many people as multi-talented as him, and very few with such high standards. He is the first person I turn to when I need work done in my house - I've waited 6 months for him to do my bathroom, as he was the only person I wanted to do it. I wouldn't hesitate to get him to renovate my entire house if it needed it!  He is also the hardest working person I have ever met, and completely trustworthy, as I am sure multiple other recommendations on this site will attest to.  If you are wondering why I'm going to so much trouble to recommend him it's simply because he's so good, and every time he does a new job I am reminded of how good he is. But he constantly undersells himself, underprices his work, and has such attention to detail and such high standards that he rarely earns what he deserves for the work he does!  His number is 07429171373.  Happy to chat to anyone who wants the recommendation in person (07745553232) Malcolm
