Hello, we are wondering what secondary school options are available and likely to get in for people living on the Hornimans end of Underhill Road?

Not ruling out and independent school, but wondering if Charter or Kingsdale are in the catchment?

Any advice greatly received.

Regards, Gloves

Harris boys & girls would be an option as well as St. Thomas the apostle (boys school). Kingsdale is always worth a try as it?s lottery. You could also try Harris Crystal Palace which is also a lottery, but quite a slim chance as they only offer a small percentage of places to children who live more than 2 miles away

Agree with the above, for up to age 16, your options will predominantly be single sex with mixed sixth forms. Harris Boys and Girls, STAC, Sydenham Girls and Forest Hill Boys. You may get in to Kingsdale via their lottery system. Deptford Green could also be a mixed option with travel by train. If you child is musical there are also the options of Haberdashera Aske's and Prendergast.

STAC is Catholic but has a considerable number of children at the school who are other faiths or no faiths My son was accepted there a few years ago and we were told by the headteacher at the time that 50% of student body were not catholic - in the end, we were also offered Charter East Dulwich (it was the first year of the school). We decided on Charter ED as it was nearer and we liked the idea of the small size of the year 7 class but we were very impressed by STAC.

i think that things might have changed since a few years ago, after the school won it's TES award

    • St.Christopher's never says no! Adult shop, anyway
    • It's such an uneven provision, I live just west of E Dulwich towards Herne Hill/Dulwich Village and there are four Post Office counters within 10 mins walk max. They are all in local shops and provide a great service.
    • Wanted to come on and do a review for DRJ Builders as I know how hard it is to find good quality and reliable builders in the area! David O'Brien and DRJ Builders are more than that - they are an absolutely brilliant building firm who we can highly recommend. We used them to do a side return extension, loft extension and full house renovation in 2016. They did such a great job, we have just used them again to add on a new rear extension to the ground floor in 2025. David is great to work with from start to finish and has a fantastic team of tradespeople who always deliver a very high standard of work. Would highly recommend them. You can get David on 07960 938621.
    • They do have other lockers where you can drop off parcels, as well as some shops who will take them. If you use the Royal Mail app, or website, you can also arrange for collection of parcels from your house. The service is actually pretty good (and a lot easier than going to the post office). There are a lack of Royal Mail lockers though. Would be good to get some more - perhaps one on North Cross road? They don't need to be outside the Post Office necessarilly.
