my basic understanding is that a nursery or day nursery is 'childcare' ( this is not to say they don't 'teach') and generally open longer for working hours etc

pre-school (or nursery school?) is generally a shorter day say 9-3 and more set up to teach either in montessori method or more mainstream (if that's the term)

I'm sure there is a better explanation out there!

Aside from the technical descriptions, I think that what each means to your child is v important/useful aswell.

When we had to move our daughter from nursery to preschool for financial reasons, it was extremely useful to be able to sell the move to her as a necessary and exciting progression now she was bigger to "preschool". Similarly, we were lucky enough to get a school nursery place and wanted to take it and luckily she was desperate to go to big school, so a nursery in a big school was very pleasing for her!

    • probably voting them back in cause they didn't want the alternative, which we now have and look what an utter balls up they've made in the first 9 months, a total calamity. If their aim was to "pee" off every bit of society then they have well and truly succeeded. The next General election can't come quick enough to see this lot booted out, and based on current performance, they've made it clear to the electorate that they are not to be trusted and will be in opposition for many, many, many years.
    • Thank you so much for that link. I had no idea they were there. Also there's a brilliant video on their website about making environmentally friendly gardens, both the hard landscaping materials and the plants used. I learned a lot. Though it was a bit disconcerting hearing someone talk with a fraightfully posh accent  exactly like the late Queen. I will definitely be visiting!
