Wanted - au pair / part-time live in childcare help (may be suitable for student / gap year)

Recommended Posts

Hi, we are a family of four looking for an au pair or similar for part-time childcare help with our two boys *aged 2 and 5). Both boys are at nursery / school during the day time so we're looking for help with drop-offs, pick ups and some after school care. Would potentially also suit someone studying but looking to accommodation in the area. The position starts in the last week of August and ideally you would stay until the end of the school year.

As an absolute minimum we need someone to be available on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday from 7.45am - 9am and then again from 2.45 - 5.45pm (12-13 hours per week). Ideally we would find someone who can offer 25hours with some additional hours on Monday/Friday, some help with light housework such as the boys' laundry and one evening of baby-sitting. Pay will be dependent upon hours/experience but will be around ?90/week for 20 hours or ?100 for 25, plus a gym membership (off-peak for use in the evenings although this is a little dependent on re-opening post covid. You will also be able to take most school holidays as paid holidays (around 7 weeks between Sept - June) and some long weekends at other times. No regular work expected at weekends except for up to three Saturday mornings (in the school year) to be agreed in advance.

We're pretty laid back but we're looking for someone who will really get involved with the family, especially the boys. We do the school run by bike, so you will need to be OK with cycling - we have a fantastic e-bike that's super easy to cycle and the roads here are not too busy for cycling. We're located in West Dulwich close to several stations and the number 3 bus route.

Please get in touch if you want more info. If you're interested in the position then please send me a private message with a bit more info about yourself and your experience. You will need to be able to legally work in the UK as I am unable to assist with visas.

    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
    • Clicking on your name, I see you've made seven posts on here since you joined  around four years ago, and they've all been about local libraries. And none of the posts are  very pleasant. Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
