Hello

I just wanted to post a quick message about Amott Road Pre-School. My daughter has been attending since Christmas but this week we have been told that due to lack of numbers the pre-school will have to close at the end of March unless funding can be found elsewhere.

This is a real shame as the pre-school has been around for years. Surely there are parents out there who would like to use it. It costs ?20 a week for 5 morning sessions (9.15-11.45) (i only send my daughter twice a week but still feel that ?20 is incredibly reasonable)

This is her first time at a preschool but she has settled in incredibly quickly which i think says a lot about the staff and other children.

If you are considering sending a child to pre-school please give Amott Road a call or pop round for a visit

Thank you

It is not full because this is not the childcare that people need. It's great if you do not work or work part-time but completely useless for people who work full-time unless they can afford a nanny.

It is sad to see a pre-school that serves the community closing down but maybe the money should be spent on services that serve the wider community.

Both my children went there and loved the place, they used to be turning kids away! What happened? Have all the nice people left the area and left us with nothing but the (shudder) foxtonites? Surely not every mother out there is working to feed their Nero addiction. It would be such a shame to lose probably the last community preschool in the area.

    • The other side of P13 drivers being risk averse is that I  have been on P13s at night that speeded (?sped?) down Underhill Road so fast I seriously thought they might crash.
    • Some P13 drivers appear very risk averse. I live in Underhill and on that road drivers are forced to back away, often considerable distances, from buses to allow them to pass, even when the bus has an immediate space it could back into. The driver at the time said that buses 'weren't allowed to back'. So reports of cars 'blocking' P13s might mean simply that the car was legally parked but the road too narrow,or the bus driver not prepared to risk advancing. NB some P13 drivers are both skilled and courteous, but not all.
    • I’ve experienced the same in Herne Hill. It’s definitely linked to where there are already marked bays, it prevents you from parking within approx 200-400 metres around the bay. Dulwich Village has quite a few bays, which probably explains why you’ve noticed it there and not elsewhere.
