DulwichFox
Where can I buy large Scallops Locally I have tried sourcing them but the ones at Sainsburys are minute. The size of a baked bean. Watched a few Youtube Vids on how to cook them but the scallops in those Vids. are enormous by comparison. Spartacus
That Answers your own question foxy Either pay for quality, possibly hand dived large scallops or get peas from the supermarketYour choice but my advice is use the local businesses before they are lost and supermarket rubbish is your only option 😱 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/260241-where-to-buy-large-scallops-locally/#findComment-1441785 Share on other sites

Blah Blah
Decent scallops are not cheap and never have been. And the best and freshest scallops are always going to be found in fishmongers who tend to get fish daily from a night before catch. Turning vegetarian saved me a fortune in the end ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/260241-where-to-buy-large-scallops-locally/#findComment-1441853 Share on other sites

mac4
Iceland sometimes have large scallops but they don't stay in stock for long. I bought some yesterday which were equal to anything I've bought off the quayside. fishbiscuits
I've never queued up for 45 mins at Moxons. Sometimes 10-15 mins, I suppose. They prep (descale, gut, fillet if you like) the fish on the spot, just like Sopers and other fishmongers do. THAT'S WHY THERE'S A WAIT. I admit they're quite expensive, but what you're saying about them is just not true and makes me doubt that you've even been in there. Maybe glanced in and seen the freezers on the right.Daft thread. Don't know why I took the bait (ha). Shouldn't get reeled in (ha ha). DulwichFox
Waiting any time outside for say only 10 - 15 mins only to find they do not have what you want sucks. KidKruger
Foxy so one can conclude you want quality large scallops, priced cheaply, very close to where you live, but not the closest fishmonger to you, meanwhile you don?t want to queue in case they?ve run out of what you want when you get to the front of the queue, and you want to walk straight in and get served immediately. If you?d been more specific at the start I could have told you: Nowhere. Foxy so one can conclude you want quality large scallops, Did I mention anything about the Quality ? priced cheaply, I would expect to pay a Reasonable price. very close to where you live, Yep .. East Dulwich ..Peckham .. Brixton but not the closest fishmonger to you, 2 previous bad experiances on the 2 times I have been theremeanwhile you don?t want to queue in case they?ve run out of what you want when you get to the front of the queue, I need to know if they even stock them. Nothing on their website under 'Our Products' and you want to walk straight in and get served immediately. I queue for most other things If I know they have what I require..If you?d been more specific at the start I could have told you: Nowhere.Always helpful K.K.Fox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/260241-where-to-buy-large-scallops-locally/#findComment-1442074 Share on other sites
j.a.
If you don?t want best quality scallops you shouldn?t be buying them at all. Dredged scallops are environmentally disastrous, very small and not worth the money. You should only want the best, freshest scallops. You want to pay a reasonable price? Are you aware that *at least* ?20 per kg is a reasonable price. Put another way, each good scallop will cost you ?2 or more.I only buy fish at Sopers, but Jason is on holiday right now. Wait until he comes back then go there. Moxons are fine, but if you don?t want to go there right now you?ll have to wait a couple of weeks until Jason has finished lazing around a barbecue in Sussex.
