Sopers sounds better but a long walk as I no longer Drive.

Sopers is a Real Wet Fish shop established 1897. Fully trained staff who know about Fish.

Moxons comes nowhere near. It's a shop that sells fish.

Then go to the supermarket as going to local shops sounds too arduous for you but don't come hobbling to me when they are gone

As for moxons their staff are also trained fishmongers but a slightly bigger organisation than sopers

Your question has been answered with two local options so now you have a choice of three places to go and you can take your pick of whichever suits your preferences (cost vs distance vs size)

Sadly no one can solve your problems for you

I've never queued up for 45 mins at Moxons. Sometimes 10-15 mins, I suppose.

They prep (descale, gut, fillet if you like) the fish on the spot, just like Sopers and other fishmongers do. THAT'S WHY THERE'S A WAIT. I admit they're quite expensive, but what you're saying about them is just not true and makes me doubt that you've even been in there. Maybe glanced in and seen the freezers on the right.

Daft thread. Don't know why I took the bait (ha). Shouldn't get reeled in (ha ha).

There were 20 people (I counted them) in the Moxon queue yesterday (Sat)

so at 2 minutes per person that would be 40 mins.

Your maths is not your strong point foxy

1 server 20 people yes 40 minutes

However as there are often multiple servers on a busy day then that time goes down exponentially and rapidly.

Maybe try an experience and cross the threshold you may well be pleasantly surprised at how quick you do, quality of stock and knowledge of the staff

And if you are really lucky they may even have your all time favourite "crabby" sticks

Oh no

However if it's that important, you can always contact them a day in advance and order what you want.

Tell me foxy, do you get "pleasure" from moaning and finding fault ?

Foxy so one can conclude you want quality large scallops, priced cheaply, very close to where you live, but not the closest fishmonger to you, meanwhile you don?t want to queue in case they?ve run out of what you want when you get to the front of the queue, and you want to walk straight in and get served immediately.

If you?d been more specific at the start I could have told you: Nowhere.

Foxy so one can conclude you want quality large scallops,

Did I mention anything about the Quality ?

priced cheaply,

I would expect to pay a Reasonable price.

very close to where you live,

Yep .. East Dulwich ..Peckham .. Brixton

but not the closest fishmonger to you,

2 previous bad experiances on the 2 times I have been there

meanwhile you don?t want to queue in case they?ve run out of what you want when you get to the front of the queue,

I need to know if they even stock them. Nothing on their website under 'Our Products'

and you want to walk straight in and get served immediately.

I queue for most other things If I know they have what I require..

If you?d been more specific at the start I could have told you: Nowhere.

Always helpful K.K.

Fox

If you don?t want best quality scallops you shouldn?t be buying them at all. Dredged scallops are environmentally disastrous, very small and not worth the money. You should only want the best, freshest scallops.

You want to pay a reasonable price? Are you aware that *at least* ?20 per kg is a reasonable price. Put another way, each good scallop will cost you ?2 or more.

I only buy fish at Sopers, but Jason is on holiday right now. Wait until he comes back then go there. Moxons are fine, but if you don?t want to go there right now you?ll have to wait a couple of weeks until Jason has finished lazing around a barbecue in Sussex.

I do not need a Kilo. I want about 4 large scallops. a Portion.

I don't even know if I will like them.

Just thought I would try them after so many people raving on about them on Chefy TV programmes .

    • Sorry to hear you are having issues. Fwiw, we received a regular letter this week. Maybe it's worth asking at the Dulwich delivery office (it's in West Dulwich, though. Their phone number is 03457740740) to see if there are aware of any issues in your particular area?  I've seen cases in the past were the a particular postie was sick and they didn't cover for them, they just let everything accumulate for a couple of days until the person was back.
    • Mal, it is related to this issue and if you scroll back a few pages you will see that Brockwell was brought up in relation to this (not by me I hasten to add). Do you not think it seems perfectly reasonable for people to be able to reference a neighbouring event - one that is having a number of challenges not too dissimilar to the ones Gala is having?     These sentences from the BrixtonBuzz article I linked seem very pertinent too:  The concern, they argue, is not just about permits, but about the Council’s repeated failure to follow proper planning processes and its habit of acting in the interests of commercial promoters rather than the local community.   And this: The group is now calling on residents to write to their local MP and councillors, accusing the Council of using legal mechanisms to avoid scrutiny.
    • Mal, like it or not, it does have some bearing on other councils. There was an item about it on Times Radio on Sunday - Kate Borsay, a presenter who lives locally, referenced Peckham Rye in relation to the Brockwell case. As the reporter pointed out, local councils will all be talking to each other and closely following how things unfold. If a precedent is set with Brockwell, other councils will be under greater scrutiny.
    • Why don't you start a new thread about Brockwell Park?  I promise that I won't post on it.
