Hi all

I've decided that I need to kick-start my exercise drive given that lockdown and work from home is here to stay... I'm looking for advice on buying an indoor exercise bike... Can anyone recommend a model and any feedback they have?

I know peloton is an obvious choice but its way too expensive for a start out bike...

Any thoughts advice shared would be appreciated..

Thanks

I'm giving away my exercise bike. Even though it's been used regularly, it's still in very good condition. I had bought insurance for it but never had to use it.

I bought it from Argos a few years ago with the promise that I'd upgrade if I used it often enough. I just kept using it but now I'm ready for my upgrade.

It's by Elevation Fitness.

If you know you are going to use the bike regularly then I'd spend the cash to get a better quality bike. If you are just starting out or want to test the waters without a big outlay then buy a cheaper bike or get mine for free.

Pm if you want it.

Thanks

I've got a bog standard 300 quid one from XS-SPorts. Replaced the bearings and tidied up the flywheel and a bit more already this year but sticking to 30 minutes a day even if it squeaks a bit. Upgrade beginning to look possible for me too as it is working slowly.

All repair issues for me center around the flywheel and as I repair things myself I feel like those guys in Gold Rush :) One piece of advice - make sure there is somewhere you can get spares if you're doing it yourself.

Companies I looked at originally JLL, JTX, Sportstech - all with bikes less than 1000 and some less than 500.

I wanted belt driven, magnetic resistance, studio type for cheap (as wasn't sure I'd keep it up). But if they make noises around the flywheel it becomes difficult to track down what it is and most support will say that's part of the bike (I want it to run completely silent when belt driven).

Check on YouTube to see what videos there are for your choice - install, run and fix.

    • As I had a moan on here about the truly abysmal Christmas meal we had at The Cherry Tree last year, I am redressing the balance by saying we had a really excellent Christmas meal at Franklins last night. Every course was absolutely delicious and  really well cooked. The staff were lovely despite being exhausted and run off their feet. In particular, my sea bass was a large portion and cooked to perfection, in stark contrast to the small dried up portion The Cherry Tree provided, from which I was barely able to scrape a teaspoonful of flesh (that is not an exaggeration). And our Franklins meal cost less than half what we paid at The Cherry Tree (to be fair, that was on Christmas Day so the Cherry Tree costs would have been higher, but that doesn't excuse the appalling quality meal). Thank you again to Franklins for restoring our faith in eating out at Christmas!
    • That is almost too ridiculous to answer but I'll take the bait. You are comparing a national charity with one branch of a small charity. Cats Protection has around 34 dedicated rehoming centres. CHAT has two, Lewisham & Canning Town and a sanctuary in Sussex. So if Cats Protection have homed 34,000 cats, thats an average of 1000 per branch. From memory this years total so far for Lewisham CHAT was over 980. I saw a few homed this weekend so we may well reach 1000 for this year. The same as Cats Protection. No need for head scratching.
    • Actually, if it was factory fitted then it's location would be documented. It's the fact that it can be fitted in different places which means that it's difficult for thieves to locate.
