Recycling project for businesses

I am a graphic designer with an interest in 'green' projects. I would like to work with a local independent business (or businesses) to redesign and repurpose materials and create products out of materials that would otherwise have to go through another process (using more energy) or ending up in landfill.

Does anyone have any recommendations of any businesses that may be willing to help?
