couldn't help but notice the unusual half term activity in Townley road this 1/2 term. Instead of lots of parents picking up children, we have a film crew, lighting, catering dept. all very exciting. the name of the school has even changed.

the alleyns website is mysteriously quiet on the matter.

anyone know what's going on?

I could not refuse it when they called round home and asked me to play the part of a teacher, they would not let me use my zimmer, and sat me behind the desk and took it away out of sight, I had learned my lines in time, but when shown the finished bit they had replaced my cockney voice with a more well spoken voice.

They had wanted a teacher with white hair but as I only have hair around my bald head I had to wear one of those flat Mitre Boards.

It was quite an experiance, not been in a film since " They were not Devided " A war film in 1950.

I was a German Sniper in a tree, got shot fell out and run over by a Sherman Tank.

When it came out later in the Regimental Cinema the lads cheered knowing it was me.

Several of us got bit parts we were just sitting by the side of the road when the crew came by and asked us to fill a few places, I think we got ten bob each for our stardom.

I have still got a copy of the film.

Pics att.

Waiting for Stardom & The war torn Village of Volsiefen,

where the film was made.

    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!

    • Why would mice move? It’s not so much they move as multiply and spread    copy and paste rather than cut and paste  mice can and should be dealt with.  But not easily or with guarantees  i would say most people in se22 reading this have mice. Whether they know it or not
