I'm not saying the topic isn't worthy of discussion, and I'm not saying that animals aren't important. But every time somebody wants to sell or rehome a bloody cat, we seem to have a debate about it. But as if that wasn't enough, we're now re-posting other people's cat adverts from other websites so we can discuss those too.

Post about whatever you want, but don't be surprised if someone points out when you're covering the same old ground.

Thanks Jeremy - you've highlighted what I was struggling to understand about woodrot's point (and Otta has now added to that too so I think I 'get' it now, I hope so anyway).

I know that some people think we should be seeing the bigger picture, and yes, there are numerous threads that get hi-jacked on here about animals for sale. But the EDF isn't representative, its a microcosm of views and everyone is entitled to be for/against something, of course they can voice their opinions whether the 'consensus' is in agreement or not on this discussion board - be it about animals for sale, 'posh' supermarkets, christmas happening earlier each year, cupcakes ad nauseum.

Yep, it gets terribly booooooring for regulars/frequent visitors to the EDF to see the same old, same old cropping up again. But have some perspective yourself.*

and yes SOME pet owners should be more bloody well responsible, as should SOME parents be better at bringing up their children and teaching them life lessons.

and yes, I am leaving EVERYTHING to the Home for Cats with Hurty Paws :) My choice.

PS previous dealings with ALF poltroons is not the same, the Minkey's post was not a hateful diatribe.

*apologies for such an incoherent post, I wasn't directing that bit at Jeremy btw - I meant forumites in general.

jeremy,

let us know where you are and we'll come and rescue you, you are obviously being forced against your will to post on this thread.

Perhaps the detractors can point to more 'worthy'threads. I note one has written about projectile vomit- perhaps time would be better spent there.

Great idea, I'll start.

Cats

SCART cables

Yes, I would find it helpful to have a list of new "acceptable" topics. Perhaps Admin (or one of the forum police above) could pin the list at the top of the page?

It's a potential deathrap here (done in Lynn Faulds-Wood "Watchdog" voice.)

I love it when people get all upset and say things like "Oh, so am I not allowed to talk about something".

Talk about whatever you like, and respect the right of everyone else to tell you they think you're talking shite. As long as they are not rude to you / swear at you / call you names, they have every right to disagree with your opinion.

I haven't actually noticed all the previous cat threads, probably because I am not the least bit interested. This one got my attention because it's in the lounge, and it was the getting rid of the cat because little girl is demanding a dog that made me click on it.

Otta - stop talking about it. You're ruining lives.

I think you should retract that post immediately Otta!!!

I am SICK of hearing about people complaining about other people complaining that they aren't allowed to discuss something.

So could you please not discuss it. Again.

Aw but what about the fluffy little ones with hurty paws...(I am joking in my last few posts btw just in case no-one realises)

For goodness sake, we've got a whole thread full of lost cats. Cats seem to be important to ED. As important as buggies and entitled parents.

No one in ED - as far as we know - was molested by Jimmy Savile, yet we discuss Mr Savile's activities on the Forum (and some of us even came to his defence in the Drawing Room.)

Of course we can discuss cruelty to cats (or any other beast) on the Forum, whether it happens in ED or as far away as Putney.

    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
    • I like the look of SD's Sweet and Sour chicken. It's a really good dish when made freshly and well. I'll need to try it. Sad that Oriental Star and Lucky House by Dulwich Library both closed at a similarish time. They were decent, reliable, "British Chinese" takeaways.
    • William S Spicer was a family-owned firm that initially made horse drawn delivery carts for breweries (especially Fullers Brewery in W London) and horse-drawn trams. With the advent of the internal combustion engine, they successfully made the transition to coachbuilding delivery vehicles London's leading department stores using German engines. WW2 interrupted their business for obvious reasons, and their postwar attempt to become the local assembler and distributor of Bulgarian "Izmama" trucks was not blessed with good fortune. In 1953, the company pivoted to being a full-service garage, leveraging their reputation for honesty and excellence.  In 1972, the Dulwich site was sold to its present owners. William S Spicer III (the grandson of the founder) retired to Lancashire, where he founded a sanctuary for the endangered ineptia beetle, which he had encountered in Bulgaria while travelling for business. In 1978, Spicer was awarded an OBE for conservation, and a newly-discovered  beetle was named after him by the Bulgarian People's National Academy of Sciences - Byturus Spicerius.
    • I'm glad all this talk of cheese has enticed David Peckham back to the forum.
