Does anyone know where you can get one of those pinch of salt measurers/dispensers? I like to follow recipes exactly when I cook so need to have correct amounts of ingredients. I enquired at that shop on LL but they looked befuddled when I asked, but I do like shopping locally if possible.

Do you mean something like this : https://thisismold.com/object/kitchenware/alessi-pizzico-pinch-of-salt#.X3TiiB7TU0M ?

Not sure if it's something you can get locally but I'm sure if you show a local shop this then they can either order one for you or worst case scenario you may have to go online to order it

Are they young people in that shop on LL? If so, they probably don't know what a pinch of salt means, either literally or as an actual action!

The Daily Mail had an article today about words that people aged 18-30 years didn't know the meaning of (of bygone sayings)! 40 per cent didn't know what 'sozzled' meant.

I suppose if you can't put your forefinger and thumb together you're in trouble when cooking

Sorry I'm sure ! Lol

Was Bob trying to ironic in his initial post because if he was then I obviously failed to take it with the pinch of salt he is after.

But Alan m , please don't rub salt in to my wounds for missing the gag 😱 as I now feel like I've been asSALTed !

Great, it goes against my credo of local shopping for local people, but I'll have a look. How big are those splash of milk jugs?

Slightly smaller than the dash of milk jugs

    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
