I went on a Kingsdale tour this week and whilst I loved the variety of subjects and their results, it felt very big and with 2,000 pupils that atrium could potentially get very very noisy! It was raining too on the day which made it worse. I?d love to send my DS there but I?m worried that he is going to come back every day with a headache from the noise! Anybody with kids already there have found this an issue?

My daughter can confirm it's very noisy! But I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a quiet secondary school, tbh...

It's fine; your child will find their set of friends and they will hang out in their own group (Covid permitting, of course). It's hard to imagine how your child will cope when they're still a teeny Year 6 but they all do. And remember that the years are kept separate at lunchtime so they will only be with kids their age. Good luck with your choice!

Hi Roundtable - my daughter is at Kingsdale, and I agree when you go there for one day it does feel very big! When looking at schools as well I was concerned also about it being too big.

But, the size or amount of students is never brought up as an issue with her - you are right as well there?s a large choice of subjects especially as they go to choose for GCSE?s, access to a wide extracurricular activities run by the school (all free)

The one good thing about a big school is that allowed a wide pool of possible friends.

I have been to a few concerts in The pod , parents evening etc (hall and or atrium) and you get used to the bustle and it actually feels quite vibrant!

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
