Just wanted to mention after hearing Ivydale received a Good Ofsted, our school is supposed to be so good so why did we receive Satisfactory and also we are low on the league tables. Goose Green are doing really well, Bellenden have really improved. What is St John's doing other than always trying to raise money, they built a garden in the summer, which was hardly used, couldn't those funds go to recruiting extra support staff for the under achieving children.

Was wondering if any other parents of St Johns agree.

It's the PTFA that raise money. The school has a seperate budget for hiring staff. You really should talk to Mrs Alexander/one of the governers if you feel strongly about this. The money the PTFA raises contributes over 20% extra to the schools budgets for the extras they can't afford - subsidising school trips, buying new laptops and cameras, Christmas shows, leavers presents and a whole host of other things. Without the money raised the school would be a much different place.

    • I know people won’t have any sympathy but the SEND challenge was brought up when taxing parents who have opted for independent school to meet a child’s SEND needs. Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
